    CV template..

'Hello Swafe it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums?'

    Ahh... why not

Anyone got a good CV template... and any tips on compiling a CV? I could just write one but knowing me I'd miss out an entire, vital section... after some bar work or even just some retail to get some dosh on the weekends before my overdraft goes beyond the point of no return

Tips I've learnt over the years:

    - no photos
    - keep it as brief (but with all the important details/qualifications) as possible
    - max 2 x A4 side
    - don't include any references, write a line at the end saying something like "references provided on request."
    - write about how well you work on your own and as a team

I used the Word CV template years ago and just customised the hell out of it. At least that way you get an idea of how it should be layed out.

get someone to proofread it and spell / grammar check it just in case you've written anything incorrectly... your/you're, there/their, career/korea, teamwork/murder etc....

most important/recent goes at the top and reads down

Check your referees before hand and make sure that they are going to give you a nice reference.

you may find that bar work and shop work just want you to fill in a form and don't need a cv

If you have had a lot of jobs, summarise the oldest ones just by skills you have gained from them. Only go into more detail with the newest and most relevant jobs.

My CV is 3 pages, which is supposedly over the top but most employers quite like it as the pages are clearly separated into different sections, and it's more due to the formatting so it isn't actually as long in words as some 1" margin, no spacing, 2-page CV's I've seen in the past.

What I do to split the sections up is add a 1x1 table, and colour it a light grey. In there I write the headings, Eg. "Qualifications"

I might get brownie points then for being pleasing on the ass... after the manager has had a hard day of wiping his behind on every other applicants CV's that doesnt have a degree in media studies with tree surgery.

Never use more than two pages

Try to focus it on your key skills

Lay it out simply but allow it to focus on the key words

Don't let your mates put "I PWN U" on it

    Things I look for;

    - No longer than 2 sides A4, preferable double sided print if hard copy - hiring managers/HR get loads of CVs and don’t have time to review them all in detail. Get to the point early.
    - Chronological order of employment and experience
    - Think along 'STAR' when outlining experience/skills etc (Situation, Task, Action, Result). Many organisations are using behavioural and situational recruitment techniques.
    - Don’t waste time with in-depth discussions around your favourite hobby, I get so tired of reading 'I enjoy football and play for this team and that team and enjoy the team building blagdeblahdeblah'
    - include all relevant publications and professional accreditations.
    - Never ever ever include such abbreviations and 'text speak', I’ve had people use 'LOL' on their CVs. Straight to the 'not for me' section.
    - Have someone proof read the completed CV, preferable to have someone who is not familiar with your area of expertise.
What we share with everyone is glum, and dark...

Just Sell yourself, and think of what you can offer, your prospective employer and what they can offer you. Sell & sell Yourself.
