    Water rates..

    Hey guys,

Just wondering - what are the normal/average water rates?
First time I've moved into a flat that's not metered.. and my bill has come through as £21.12 per month, inc. Direct Debit discount (CTax band A property)..
Seemed a bit steep to me :/
We cannot choose what we are.. but what are we but the sum of our choices?

Sounds reasonably reasonable for water/sewerage services.
Sadly I don't think anyone has much choice in their water supplier - the only alternative is to log on to your suppliers website or an alternative like www.moneysupermarket.com to check if a Water meter would be cheaper for you.
If you live on your own etc. it may well be cheaper to get a meter fitted, free on a 12 month trial.
Your landlord would have to consent I spose though :S

I was concerned when we moved from an unmetered semi to a metered 4 bed detached. As there's only the two of us I didn't know what to expect for water costs. I was expecting us to pay more being in a family oriented house.
It turned out that we were paying very little per month and still running into credit with the water company. I'm mindful of how much water we use so we've toilets with 2 stage flushes and recently renovated the ensuite with a shower to use in lieu of the bath.
Never washing the cars saves water too. That's why I'm glad my car's silver, it never looks really clean but hides dirt really well

I wish that they did but unfortunately in Glasgow they don't have this - if you elect to go onto a meter (you think that you are overpaying for usage) then you have to pay for the meter & installation (which pretty much kills any potential savings that you may have thought that you could make...).
If the water company decides to put you onto a meter (i.e they think that you are being undercharged for usage) then it's supplied & fitted free ...
