    IE vs Firefox.

What advantages does IE still hold over firefox?

I use firefox with javascript blocker, but still need to use IE for FTPing.

    Any others?

    IE for FTPing
Why ? Either use FireFTP or a free FTP client like FileZilla

Generally IE is only necessary for online banking or other security intensive sites or for applications using IE as a thin client wrapper e.g. Siebel, LiveLink and other entrprise level applications. For general consumer use, there's not much reason not to use Firefox

I like the drag and drop of IE. Simple. Also I need IE for Windows updating.

The point of this thread is, everytime I go to remove IE (hard as it is, it is possible - to an extent) I find a use for it! :S So I'd like to know what people stil use it for.

Use IE Tab for Firefox, it uses the same IE app but inside another tab in the Firefox browser

Firstly, pretty much all GUI FTP software has drag and drop, they also have extra functionality that is not available from IE. I'd suggest trying one and see how you get on.

As for Firefox, I use it all the time. (Please note that there is no need to remove IE - it is useful for sites that do not support Firefox).

Firefox is a top quality web browser with an abundance of features - and as for anything it can't do 'out of the box', there will be an extension available. e.g. IE tab extension to open up sites in IE within firefox, a gmail extension that checks your gmail account for new messages - and the list goes on.

The complete look and feel of Firefox can be customised to exactly what you want, where as with IE you simply get what you're given.

At the end of the day, it's all down to personal preference.

I prefer firefox, but have to admit that IE renders pages a lot faster on my system.

I used avant, IE baseds with blocking and works on all pages. Has many features of firefox, I just prefer it. have Firefox, opera and avant on the laptop, tend to use avant the most.

Avant? Will hunt into that and have a look.

IE tab....I'll look into that. And the gmail checker

TBH I haven't used an FTP client since coolftp. (I think it was called that - had a big smiley face as the logo. I just didn't need the extra features.)

    Cheers

I use Firefox mainly but have to use IE for the CMS at work as it doesn't like Firefox.

I tried IE7 because I could really use the tabs and it crashed lots, removed it and now my IE6 crashes all the time. Should've got Avant Browser, silly me for thinking Microsoft would have actually got tabs working properly by the third beta and all this time after Mozilla...

For anyone having problems with the speed of Firefox, have you tried doing the BB optimisations and using the prefetch facility? Check out this link.

i swear by firefox, i was a bit hesitant at first(seemed like one more gimmic of online software) but iv never looked back. That being said, i did forget about the IE & updating side, but thats what the built in update tool is for in windows right?

Firefox is so much quicker & user friendly, it feels 'lighter' aswell, ie: more compact and easier to navigate around.

got FF & IE7 on my machine - beta 3. No probs with the latter, other than the odd DHTML menu not right.

had beta 2 before, also - no real problems
