    C.p.r

If doctors and your close relatives had decided that for your benefit, because your going to die anyway that in the event of a cardiac arrest they wouldnt rescusitate you.... would you want to know?

Something similiar is happening on my ward at the moment and I would find it interesting to hear someone elses opinion... personally I think not telling them is a rotten thing to do, but there you go

You might wanna edit your profile then

When I first read it I thought it was maybe a child or someone in their early teens, but it is an adult. I personally think that they have every right to know that they will not be resuscitated if he has a cardiac arrest. I would also hope that my parents, girlfriend etc would feel the same way if I was in that situation.

He should be told exactly how sick he is and allowed to make his own choice. If he is too sick to make the choice then it is up to his family, and from what you say this is probably what has happened.

Hes still conscious and everything, but all his major organs are slowly starting to shut down.... he would be able to receive and understand any information given to him, its just that his parents have decided to not tell him.

The poor guy has a girlfriend, who i doubt knows... he isnt even gonna get chance to say goodbye to her really.

Im finding it quite hard to understand to be honest, hope my parents wouldnt do that to me

Lynni it depends on the person in question, and on there views alone, they might want to know, they might not, its a catch 22 situation tho. You can tell em and they might be pleased to here because they want to live for whatever time they have left and only go when they truely are ready, or they might not want to know that someone has made that decision as they might feel betrayed, that they have given up hope before the person.

Its difficult to decide and something i would say the hospital should have guidelines on for you and all the staff's benefit.

Plus as much as he might not show it - he could know he's going to die. Its something you can't rule out, either way its his right to choose, surely he is not always surrounded by his parents?, does he never see a doc on his own?. Surely he asks the doc about his condition on his own?.

Sadly no easy answer Lynni, and i'd say that i pray that all of us never have to suffer a similar fate.

In answer to your question, yes he is always surrounded by a member of his family... cos they know hes gonna die dont they? as far as he is concerned tho he has an infection (this what hes been told) maybe he does know and is too afraid to ask the question.... he did know that he was going to die eventually and came to terms with that, but this is slightly different now
