    Parking fine

    Hi everyone,

A friend of mine has been given a fix penalty notice for running over the time on her parking ticket.

However the penalty notice has the make and colour of her car down wrong so what do you think the chances are of disputing it?

    Mark

Write loads of annoying letters, and if you complain for long enough it will be no longer valid. Will take loads of time and effort though - maybe just worth paying.

But I'm not sure about if they have those particular details wrong, I'm sure someone will be along with a decent answer in a bit...

Most fines go up if not paid within a set time but if you flag an objection to it within that limit then the increase is put on hold till the dispute is resolved one way or the other. It's worht a go at getting it over turned.

Obviously your friend knows and admits to overstaying his/her parking ticket, then pay it.

^^ No, if you overstay then it's upto the council to enforce it correctly. it could have been 2 minutes or 2 hours, everyone knows how officious wardens are after all they are there to maximise revenue for the council.

Fight them - don't roll over and take it. The ticket MUST show the colour and make of car. If this is incorrect then the council DO NOT have a leg to stand on - it's an incorrectly issued ticket. Your friend can stand up in court and prove she does not own a vehicle of that colour and show that it is an invalid ticket. The ticket must also show the "date of contravention" and "the date of issue"

here is a great site that will help http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk...g-tickets.html

The trouble we have in this country is that we are English and we and trust officials even when they break the law. By issueing documentation that does not abide by the law the ticket is invalid. We like not to make a fuss and gladly hand over our money.

Kitty, just take the ticket and appeal.

I had an intervew once that ran over my ticket time, obviously I wasnt going to walk out in the middle of an interview because of a parking ticket so I left it. Came back and had a fine on the car, so I just asked somebody who was leaving if I could have their ticket and I took that to the council and lodged an appeal. 3 weeks later it had been dropped.

Mark, if you pay that your a fool, they dont have a leg to stand on. Do not be taken in by the "well if it was your car and you knew you did it" rubbish. Our roads seem to be marked according to where they can make the most money and not at all to do with road saftey or effiency, take a stand and dont pay.

    Well said!!!

As said, if the ticket doesn't show the make/colour of you're car correct, whos to say that another car ( of the stated make/colour ) didn't use fake number plates?

They can't prove squat.... tell you're friend not to bend over and pay!

When you say wrong colour, do you mean blue as opposed to yellow, or crimson as opposed to evening red?
As in, is it an obvious error?

A lot of Traffic Wardens take digital photos as evidence. In this case it will work in your mates favour as it will prove the traffic warden was wrong, lol. How much was your mate over? I don’t think it is on when traffic wardens issue tickets for being a few minutes over.

I know people don’t like Traffic Wardens but without them people would park in all sorts of daft/dangerous places. A lot of the problems stem from the companies the Wardens work for. They set unrealistically high targets for ticket issues, I mean WTF! People are either breaking the law or not. Imagine if Police Officers had an arrest quota/bonus.

The police do have a target, its called a "detection" target.

    http://www.warwickshire.police.uk/po...ats/index_html

There’s nothing like proving someone wrong G4Z. Imagine if Police Officers had to achieve a daily/weekly/monthly arrest quota, if they didn’t they received a disciplinary. Those that arrested high numbers got bonuses. I really hope this doesn’t exist...

There are many problems with crime statistics and targets, for example, if the police are more effective at detecting crime the figures go up, if people think nothing will be done about a crime, they don’t bother reporting it and figures go down. Targets and league tables are crude tools in my opinion.

Any news on the parking ticket?

Anders, there was an interesting documentary on BBC not long ago, think it was panorama, where they had an ex police woman go undercover. There was a case where 3 kids were caught shoplifting and rather than do the usual scare them and haul them home to mum and dad they arrested them instead, and then called it 3 "detections" because there were 3 offenders, even though it was a single incident. They did this because.. they havea target

Might be available on the BBC site, some of the stuff they got up to and attitudes are pretty shocking.

And totally OT, I dont even remember making that post, I must have just got home from Hed Kandi.

I think its pretty good considering my state, it actualy makes sense and has a reference.

Yes I remember hearing about that documentary G4Z. I’ve heard (i.e. third hand accounts) it said that being in the Police force turns a lot of good men into racists. Having to deal with abuse every day etc., it’s shameful.

I’ve got a mate in the police force. I’ll ask him what sort of pressure there is regarding targets next time I see him. Fortunately I’d trust him with anything; sadly not everyone is like him.

Unless they do some serious vetting before letting people in to the Police, it will have a similar percentage of bigoted people that make up society.

Impressed you were able to Google/remember a relevant link if you were mashed.

Did you see the Hooligans Panorama? It was so sad to see. These "lads" act like yobs every weekend so drunken brawls and racist chanting in Germany was evitable. I like the point one person made, what does shooting down German bombers have to do with football?
