Interesting, so NVidia will clear up then if the article is to be believed.
Anantech Benchmarking Tool for CPU, GPU and SSDs
I've grown to see the Inq cover some good articles...but I think they got this wrong this time

Erm yeah. The article neatly ignores the fact that the ability to run multi-GPU configurations is not limited by the chipset, but by driver support, or lack thereof. I'm pretty damn certain that any chipset capable of providing 2x8 or 2x16 lanes of fully standards compliant PCI-E to a pair of graphics cards will run any flavour of GPU teaming under the sun, given proper driver support. Was it Asrock that released a driver which allowed SLI on it's ULI-chipset board?
So, no ATi chipset boards available for AM2? Run Crossfire on a Via board instead then. Or NVidia for that matter- I can't see any legal reason why they couldn't write a suitable driver.
It's typical Inquirer rubbish. The AMD market is in a state of transition and it'll take a bit of time for the new chipsets to come out. In fact, given that AMD is already in the shade because of Conroe, this is an excellent time for them to change their long-term strategy and start things rolling that will come to fruition next year (when we hope they have competitive processors).
Rave is right, you can enable nVidia SLI on Intel motherboards simply by modding the drivers, so I doubt there's a real reason that Crossfire can't be opened up if they see a commercial need.
the Inq may have got the timing wrong for this - afaik the delay was mobo mfrs were waiting on production quantities of SB600 but we should start seeing the mobos popping up very shortly.
The Inq is a good read but they have no experience running big business and are not analysts. I think that the people that run ATI/AMD know a tinsy winsy bit more about the business than the Inq and have some understanding of the long term trends that will occur in the future and subsequently be able to structure their business to make the most of this in order to compete with their rivals.

I didn't really agree with it, especially as I read the FAT article on anandtech i just wanted to get the pun in lol. I agree with iranu, they can be quite amusing at times but they are not the best readers of situations.
