Damn those terrorists eh? The Met Anti-Terror unit and the news says they're out to get us, so it must be true. Pure evil, and to think, they're only serving to help our government's agendas.

I agree: Scum of the Earth.

Was just reading about this on the BBC website.

I'm due to fly to Canada in less then 3 weeks, a flight which was planned over 2 years ago. Now not only am I gonna be slightly worried but I won't be able to bring hand luggage - Food, MP3 player, books . Its a long flight.

Lets hope MI5 continue to catch them, for everyones sake.

It certainly is a worry when things like this happen, though, as Stoo correctly pointed out, the 'alert rating' is simply paranoia, and, quite frankly, embellishment to the point of it becoming ridiculous and unsubstantiated.

Bear in mind guys, that these ratings have been specifically raised before every single conflcit that has been initiated, so don't be too surprised if we see some form of intervention on the US/British part in the Middle East in the very near future.

By instigating fear with this kind of stuff, the government is able to swiftly turn public opinion towards more aggressive policies. I can recall at least 3 examples in recent times where the rating has been raised, and then later been admitted to have false-cause for alarm. Don't fall foul of such nonsense.

At least its mildly diverting me from my back pain. It sounds like there will be severe disruption to flights in and out. They have just cancelled any further incoming flights to heathrow.

Out come the conspiracy theoriests. "D'OH!"
Disaffected young Muslims. What a joke. Anyone read Littlejohn?
Now Isreal is in a war, will we have to watch out for disaffected young Jews?
Suicide Jews? I don't think so.

Don't let the left wing media twist you into thinking these people have a reason or are maltreated. There is no reason. They're nothing more than scum, like the IRA before them.

Considering the biased approach of the media at large, I hardly see how one could argue them to be 'left-wing' in approach. Indeed, considering their coverage, why indeed would you even suggest they are 'left-wing'?

I for one find the definition of left and right rather obtuse. I think we can agree that in recent years, the left have been more to the right than even the right. Far-left is almost identical in approach and form to the far-right, and the same is true of more mild instances of this left/right paradigm. So, is it not better to take each issue by its own merits, and not try to dismiss an alternative as 'left-wing' or 'liberal', when in fact the people who propogate that particular issue may be even more aligned to traditionally right-wing policies than you are?

Trying to allign every issue by polarity to party-lines is ridiculous, and indeed, I think you trying to dismiss me and certain opinions of mine in this method displays more your ignorance than my stupidity, Bazzlad.

    Bah.

Congrats to the met for stopping this attack before it has happened, that shows some good work done however...I have one big big hope here.

That the government actually will lift this ban on hand luggage in the next few weeks..i'm not flying for another 3 weeks and even then its only a 1hr30 flight (and inbound to the UK so I should be ok), but I can easily see them using this as an excuse for tighter restrictions in the name of safety...Taking more of our civil liberties away

The problem is that its logical - it makes sense. Electrical devices, any liquids etc *could* be used as bomb components or detonators..and most people will see this so, while they wil be pissed at having to spend X hours bored to death on a plane, most people will accept it. What people don't realise is that this doesnt stop any terrorists with a decent grasp of technology...transmitters, rfid tags and the like can be absolutely tiny now, can be implanted under the skin, or kept in a wallet or credit card (and made of materials not to set off the detectors..surgical steel for example)..explosives could still be concealed/swallowed etc.

meh either way it's still good work in catching these guys, and I really hope that they lift these restrictions asap..

edit: and Bazzlad seriously - learn some facts before you post please...especially comments like that about the(P)IRA...do you really think that these groups would kill themselves and hundreds of others without a reason? The majority of these people really believe in their cause - be it freedom for their country (eg with the IRA) or a religious reason (eg with many arab groups). Granted these causes may appear wrong to us, totally unjust or whatever - and in particular the methods about which they try to bring about their cause....but to them it's no different than say, American and the UK going into iraq to 'liberate' the people. Interestingly the USA killed more civillians in the first few weeks of the iraq war than al-qaeda did in it's attacks against the US..in reality, the USA are the biggest terrorists of them all..(but i digress)

Who mentioned the media at large? It all depends on what you're reading.
If you reading The Sun you know what you're going to get.
If anyone thinks the BBC hasn't got progressively more left and more PC I'd be suprised.
All the clips about the Israel/Lebanon war have been of innocent Lebanonese dead.
How many shots have you seen of the Israel dead?
How many times have hezbollah been called a political party and military organisation instead of terrorists?

You do know ofc that Hezbollah DOES haev a political wing and a military wing. Granted I would class the military wing as a terrorist organisation - BUT the political wing is still valid, and has a right to exist.

    Just like with Sinn fein..
