my uptime record so far on a windows pc:
was wondering if this is near a record for xp? as i've heard of 1000 day uptimes with xp but wasn't sure if they were genuine or not.
cheers

Dam , Your pc must love you, not seen many uptimes, and none near that good!
that is impressive, makes my 3 hours look shabby

Though not XP, one of the servers where I used to work had something like a 450 day uptime - it managed to survive and not need a restart for over a year. Now that I would have thought was impressive
i think what this demonstrates is that windows is not that bad anymore

Its worth noting that you can't patch certain vital systems thou, so security is always a concerne.
Aditionally a lot of uptimes you see such as unix ones are in my mind bull****, because vital services will of been restarted (such as http deamons, network IP services etc).

sounds like you don't have any young children to press buttons...
I was only up to a month or so yesterday, but I had to reboot to install my new HD.
I had Find-A-Drug crunching systems that stayed up for over a month at 100% CPU load and were only restarted because of hardware swaps or software installs. Still 200 days is the highest I've ever seen.
4 hours. I suck

wow 200 days, my pc never on for more than 3 hours a day even at the weekend. I'm kind of environmentally but subconsciously I just have a habit of switching things off when I have finished

Its a 6year old time box!
- Its still got the origanal 1000mhz Tbird chip in it, but most of the rest is replaced.
- The mobo was just replaced this week, when the old MSI K7Tpro died
- And end up with new ram to go with that, as the pc133 didnt fit...
- Graphics cards origanal tho, trusty Geforce2 GTS! With the stock cooler still spining!
- It had a new hard drive in its second year, good old cheap pos HDD's...
