    Beckham Dropped from England Squad.

    Thoughts?

I personally think it's a stupid move, but am not too bothered as it's a friendly, just hope he gets him back in soon.

i think its a terrible desicion and i cant see the reasoning behind it

if you go off world cup performances then how the hell is frank lampard still in the squad?

I feel he's trying to prove a point: "Look I'm not Sven." And in doing so is probably shooting himself in the foot.

    Alternatives:

Wright “Takes on one, takes on two, falls over” Phillips?!

Lennon “Skillfull nearly there” but no end product?

    Give me a break.

Gotta say i think it is a great move , Beckham was once great but his recent performances especially the world cup have been terrible . Now that he knows he isnt guaranted a place he might get his act together and really put it in. Much better to have wright phillips and lennon tearing it down the wing then Beckam trotting about pinging aimless long balls.
On another note i was really impressed with mclaren in the press conference seemed determined to make it his england team.

I love it. Becks scored two vital goals, set up 90% of the other goals and he played bad.

Goes to show how much people expect from him.

What about Lampard? He still has his place. Go figure.

Beckham has become a national figure of dislike due to jealousy - the only time he had a bad patch of performances was Japan. And he was injured. And he got slated. Yet Rooney's injured and we're begging him to come back early. Stupid public.

mate i totally agree - Aaron Lennon does not deserve a place in the england first team at all, he has absolutly no end product at all, ok so he can run but thats about it - Beckham is one of the best crossers in the world how can he be left out

ok so wright-phillips is a good player but how many games did he play for chelsea last year?? he's massivly lacking in match practice and so should not be holding a first team place

Becks has done a great service for country and it would be nice to see him hit his century, but we all know things have to change after the fiasco of the world cup and he's part of an old system that doesn't work for us anymore.

Who wants to win World Cups by playing pants for 85 minutes then sneaking a free kick or lobbing one on the bean pole's head?

Put Carrick in and then work forward from there. He's gonna be doing it week-in week-out for Man U anyway.

McLaren is trying to distance himself from Sven, and is trying to build a team for the future. By dropping Beckham, he's giving players like Lennon and Wright-Phillips a chance to play, and learn from international football.

It's better in the long run, rather than relying on Beckham all the time because lets face it, hes not the youngest player in the world.

Daft move imo... Although he perhaps didn't prove to be the best of captains we've had, he still seemed to be one of the best on the pitch.

Finally someone not picking Beckham on reputation, I personally think it's a good call, Beckham is 31 now and a squad has to be built for the 2008 euro championship, he will be 33 then, will he still be good enough, anyways with some of the younger players selected we might finally get a team that can play for the full 90 mins.

yep definitely agree...I think Mclaren is trying to change the way the English play football. We all saw that as soon as we had people belting up the wing we had chance after chance. I just don't think Beckham is suited to this style of play when he plays for England.

If you have Lennon in the team then where do you put Beckham? No way you can put him at right back over Neville so there is just no room for him anymore.

Having seen Lennon play in the flesh nineteen times in the past year (Spurs season ticket ), I can see why he's in the squad.

Lennon has fantastic pace, breath-taking skill and he does have an end product. He scored a couple of goals last season for Spurs, with some clinical finishing, and he's not a bad crosser of the ball either.

It's really not his fault if the likes of Crouch and Defoe can't finish the oppotunities he presents to them.

And best of all he's only 19. Imagine how good he'll be by the next World Cup after he's got some European and international experience under his belt.
