    Another hand luggage thread

As I said before I'm flying to Ireland in a week and was wondering about my camera bag... it's smaller than the new restrictions in all but the thickness... It's about 7.5-8 inches thick, as opposed to 6.5 or whatever the restriction is...

Is it likely to be let into the cabin with me if I smile and ask nicely? It's only a small bag, it's just ... Square. Lol.

I can't find an email address for Aer Lingus to ask

Anyone else flown recently? Similar situations?

Put a ticking clock in it, and have some wires poking out.

I fly every week for my job. It's a real p*sser at the moment. Being a British Muslim isn't helping either! But I digress...

If you're unlucky, you'll be asked to fit the bag into a cage that will only accept bags conforming to the new dimensions. If it doesn't fit you'll have to check it in. However, it's pot luck. You will get asked about your hand baggage at check-in. I would just show the back to the check-in assistant and chances are that he/she won't ask you to get it measured in the measuring 'cage'. It's only larger laptop/rucksack/suitcase type bags that they're being strict with.

What I would advise is to turn up at the airport 2-3 hours early - even for domestic/euro flights. For longhaul I advise turning up 4 hours before your flight (particularly if it's Heathrow or Gatwick that you're flying from).

The security screening is taking ages (I queued for nearly an hour on Monday morning) and you have to be manually searched. You'll need to remove your belt and shoes to have them X-rayed.

    I hope that helps!

Bump? Anyone else? Less than a week, am I best off packing it as well as possible in my hold luggage?

I'm flying out to Italy tomorrow, but have decided not to take any hand luggage at all. It just seems like so much hassle at the moment.

I guess you could leave enough space in your main luggage incase you do have to pack your camera in there. Just ask at the desk before you check all your stuff in.

I can understand where you are coming from though. I would not be happy putting that sort of stuff in your main luggage at all.

When i came back from italy (First day they were allowing any hand luggage) they made someone check in a bag which i would guess is about the same size as what you wish to take.

So i'd suggest packing it in your case/checking it in.

Ant, when i came back into england we could take pretty much anything that wasnt liquid. They had the metal detectors on very high sensitivity and were checking every piece of hand luggage on the exray quite thoroughly

there are some details on the baa site http://www.baa.co.uk/

    detailed details!?

It's not too clear does the camera fit in a bag 16 x 35 x 45 cm bag, or would the camera be the only item of hand luggage? It does mention laptops and electrical items been ok - not explicitly cameras.

I'd ring the airport you are flying from because it's not the airline that do the security check for you to pass to the departure lounge.
