I would KILL for one of those!
i know several girlies that want one. they will never play any games on it, but it's bright pink so they want it sitting on a self in their bedroom looking shiney.
Looks great. Nice change from the usual run of the mill stuff. The GameCube tried it, but always looked like a cheap toy in purple.
its the anne summers special edition.

All the cubes looked great. Sony failed in trying to make the ps2 appear to be a bit of hi end hifi kit and as for the original xbox...Originally Posted by Stewart

You see, the reason I'm uber sceptical is that if it was such a fant-bloody-tastic idea, why was it not done at launch? Or 1 year ago? It's a desperate plee to ditch the last big batch of silicon. Why not do one in chequer plate alloy? THAT WOULD SELL, even to people already with one for each room!
I can see the board of directors now:
/dream mode
12 suits sat in a hot stuffy room in mid English summer, sweltering, and looking at a Nobo board, where a very very nervous dude is drenching the armpits of his suit, stood, pen poised, awaiting the UK marketing team's IDEA!
"What shall we do to prevent slow down of sales?"
/mumbled response from somewhere "Blow up the X Box II factory"
"Oh hah, hah...." /but puts it in his mind to consider
"Hold back PS3?"
"Done that"
/quiet cough from rear
"Err...I know we suggested it back in 2004, and I know it was laughed off the face of the planet beause it didn't go hand in hand with GT4 and killing spree games....but now we've got so many people on dance mats and singing Singstar games......could we.......
/ducks
Paint it pink?"
................/tumble weed across board room
"Sod it....I'm hot....you lot look like you need a beer...we'll go with pink, sign it off, and let's get outta here"
"It'll look good in the Argos catlogue"
"good point, make a note of that..someone ring them"
/12 marketing dudes file out of room looking nervous bur pleased to be going back to the south of France
/dude stoof by the nobo board slowly writes it down....looks at it...and adds "pink controllers too"
He leaves too.

In all seriousness it probably wasn't done at launch for cost reasons - would be much more expensive to produce multiple coloured units than just the single, black one and a few special colours for the japaneese market.
Also they had an image to preserve - the PS2 has always been primarily the domain of 12-25 year old males, generally the lager drinking boy racer types - and a black casing would be much more appealing to them than any other colour...(before you start I *know* this is a generalisation, but it fits in with most PS2 owners I know, and the majority of its popular games [fifa XXXX, WWF XXX, tekken etc])
Also, taking the hi-fi analogy, think about how hi-fi equipment colours have changed. At one point Silver units were the top end, expensive ones that everyone wanted, then it changed to black (and was black at the time of the PS2), and then everything went shiny again.
Just like with our consoles - the PSX was grey (close enough to silver), the PS2 was black, the PS3 has gone all shiny..
For those manly boys who like to wear pink t shirts too![]()
iobviously built for these peep
