    GCSE I.T help?

    Well school starts next week and i chose I.T for A Level having not done it at GCSE, so i feel i need to get a bit of learning in before the term starts to help me catch up on everyone else, has anyone any ideas/tips/info to help me along my way to learning?
    All i know that they done was build a website which was about 70% of the GCSE itself, can anyone help me on how to do this?...or was their a program they used?

    Thanks!

    Are you sure you don't have to have done GCSE ICT in order to do A-Level?

    Which course are you doing at A-Level?

    I did mainly database (access) work for gcse (AQA i think) and then database stuff again for AS. And some pascal programing then some visual basic to prepare me for this year

    You need to tell us which exam board you're using for AS

    did IT at A level. only memory of it is the teacher talking about the reasons debit/credit cards couldnt replace cash because of the transactions fees associated with it. i still cant see how the retard didnt factor in the more people use it the cheaper it would get to do. (economies of scale)

    well i was at a college that was 100% Mac's so that says it all....

    still bitter.

    in a lot of ways its not dissimilar to GCSE IT. you can very easily jump ahead of the game by simply having a computer and using (in my case) Word, Excel, Filemaker, and a program using the Pascal programming language.(economies of scale)

    I'm from NI and a lot of my mates did the A Level ICT course and my little bro just dropped it after AS. CCEA is our exam board for secondary level education.

    It is a complete piece of cake and if you are in anyway technical you will be fine. The only problem with it is that the coursework is ridiculous and a complete waste of time - over 200 pages of writeups are required for a crappy "database website" that people fired out in frontpage without having a clue what they were actually doing. Drag and drop code wizards for old ASP 3.0 based website with minimal interaction with an Access 2000 database. I will sign over my flat lease if you find me a large scale modern site that still uses ASP 3.0 with MS Access 2000 databases.

    I did ICT at GCSE then decided to not bother with it at A Level and do Physics instead. If you are aiming to do something like Computer Science at Uni forget ICT, do all the maths related subject you can get your hands on because ICT in no way equips you for a Computer Science degree.

    ICT - Information Communications Technology is not about the working of computers but more the impact they have on society and how to use them. In other words not how to make them or write programmes for them.

    If you are worried about the course and especially the jargon and terms start reading sites like Hexus, The Register, The Inquirer, Slashdot and Digg regularly where all the terminology is used on a regular and real life basis. You will start to pick it up no problem and I'm sure you will know of a lot more than the teacher that is trying to pretend he/she knows what she is talking about.

    IT is incredibly easy at A-level. I did the double award and had 2 A's after the first year. I'm suprised so many employees/universities actually accept it as a proper A level

    Agreed.

    I did a BTEC National in Computing (must fight Mighty Boosh quote urges...) and even that was easy for the most part.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    The first six months will be spent learning how to type and make letterheads, and it wont get much more complex. Don't stress college is easy

    Not sure what you all did but I did 'computing' with AQA (I think). I found it hard to get into the programming (Pascal at first) but then visual basic wasn't so hard to get into.

    Done tons of business related stuff and lots about data transfer within a computer/very basic hardware/binary/hex etc.

    Then the coursework which was done in access but involved some VB etc.

    I would tell you what i did in more detail but the school file transfer system is down at the moment
