How long to fix a "broken" gas pipe and service a boiler..?

Well I ask this because an engineer (asian named alf.... ) came here today to fix the boiler. He started at 11:30 and is still working on it...

When I say service I mean fix the problem of our pilot light not coming on and then just check the inside to see if everything is functioning correctly.

    WTF...

Quick question about the title of "borken" gas pipe, has he been pulling up your carpets etc to get to the gas pipes underneath or has he just been dealing with the boiler?

(Perhaps you could ask him to simply replace the timer device on them, mine was installed a couple of months ago but has now died and a replacement fitted in under 1 hour.
    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!

This is typical of tradesmen everywhere. I have such a loathing & disrespect for them, I can't even begin to express myself here without copping an immediate ban from the mods or Admin.

Classic case of : If you want something done properly, you have to do it yourself.

I've got one of the middle-level service contracts with British Gas. This entitles me to one annual service of my boiler. The last time the BG engineer came around to service the boiler he told me that British Gas allocate their engineers around 45 minutes to service a boiler.

A broken gas pipe could take any amount of time depending on where the pipe and the break itself is located. If it's easily accessbile then I imagine it shouldn't take more than an hour. If it involves chiselling away at a brick wall to locate the break then it could take many hours.

I agree with garthc though, I wouldn't trust the vast majority of tradesman to deliver an honest service.

    Don't tell him, he's a boiler bore.

He'll be all 'Ah, the SDK-1774 Neo Reticuler, with the built in 551/6 recirculating pipes and the tripple paded overflow leak spinards, thats always overheating. The trick is to remodulate the field coils on the phase inducers, reverse the trimpet valve, and re-scuttle the maim flaps, resulting in a 32.6% more efficient clap-shaft motion.'

He used to work with boilers.

Or maybe just a dodgy gas valve/solenoid.

Could well have been a pipe though, I guess.

The pipe that needed fixing was in the open so it was a simple soldering job. He said it would be about £100 for what he looked at....thing is, this morning, when we wanted hot water...it didn't get hot...had to put the electric heater on XD

    Hes not getting paid
