I have to agree with you there, but not just as an insult. People who use the word as a derogitory (sp?) sense of describing something - perhaps an object, a saying, a person, something someone did, whatever, really annoy me.

Its a maturity thing. When a townie kid ask me for "a spare fag" at the bus stop and i say i dont smoke i usualy get an insult along the lines of "your gay". Its just something kids do- often without thinking.

NS, it's offensive. My mate has led me to realise how he feels when he hears it being used in a derrogatory manner, and how it offends him highly.

It's not "just another word", it may seem that way because it's so widely used today, but it's more offensive to certain groups than saying something like "that's crap" or "that's rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish".

It really just depends on people's sensitivity as well (Im not saying that as if its a bad thing) . . . I do think after a while, things do become "just another word" - but at the same time, can be used "offensively" - as un-PC as it might be.

I used to get really offended by people calling Chinese places "chinkys", but Ive just accepted it's a commonly used word. I dont endorse it (tho I have used it in jest to take the piss), but it's there, it's not going to go away.

When people started describing things as "gay", it's obvious that they weren't talking about the "bright or lively" meaning. They were describing something that they don't like as homosexual. How is homosexuality actually a bad thing? More to the point, how is homosexuality "Lame"?

Stop trying to put words in my mouth. I said "Gay" when used in this context is used as an alternative to "Lame". Oh no, it's not in the dictionary as that. Boo Hoo.

I know more gay people than straight people and none of them find it offensive.

It doesn't have anything to do with Homosexuality being Lame, it is just a term, nothing to do with it.
