Will be going there with me bird for 2 nights. What things should I go and see?
soapy knockers.
the inside of a hotel room for two nights
on a more serious note im told the roman baths are quite good
Nah it's a really dull place to be. I mean; there's the Royal Crescent, and a weir next to the only inhabited bridge in the UK/Europe/who cares anyway. There is nothing worth seeing or doing in Bath, so either stay in the hotel or go somewhere (anywhere) else instead
i'd head to the hotel bar and stay there
Its namesake?
good shopping, old school city, obviously the roman baths, its only 2 nights, ul enjoy it
So bascially have a bath and see some soapy tits... seems like a reasonably good time to
me.
depends what nights your going and what your looking to do and where you're staying
If possible - stay in the town center - or close to it.
For culture, there is the circus (place not a show) the royal cresent, the Roman Baths,(the pump rooms) some tours including a comedy ghost tour, some history tours, there are hot air balloon rides.
for relxaing - the new bath spa has just opened and worth a look, lots of parks and nice places to go for a walk, there is a nice relaxation centre in the Royal Cresent hotel that you can use.
For eating - some great resturants
nice meal for 2 = moon and sixpence, the Firehouse, Peir Victoiurs,
fun / easy food = cafe retro (not a cafe) the wallrus and carpenter, iguanas, hong kong bistro, Jamuna's (indian)
night life, standard issue chain bars/pubs, all bar one, slug and lettuce, bar ha ha, wetherspoons, revolutions, local places such as RSVP, Pulp, or delf de krug are a good place to go for drinks from beers to cocktails
clubs pooh na na, huntsman, Tee's (now called the playground) delf de krug, Qube, the fez club,
thats just off the top of my head, if you want more information or you're looking for something specific - drop me a note.
ikonia thanks for the post, very useful.
The problem with me is I dont know what I want to see.
I guess I will look at the roman bath go on a bus tour that kind of thing. Probably now
go and see the stuff you put.
Whats the atmosphere like at night bit dodgy? or very safe. Cambridge had a very nice
atmosphere and didnt seem like something could kick off at all. Oxford on the other hand
felt rougher.
I wont be going out clubbing and the like but bars probably. Any bars in particular which
have a good atmos and not too noisy? What are student ones, and any to stay away from?
Basically my plan is go there have a meal and drink first night. next day see lots of stuff
take pictures eat and drink and next day go home.
Im thinking of going from a thursday until saturday.
ok - simple plan
Book now !
Firehouse Rotisserie 01225 482070
Californian food, great ! good wine, and you must have the fudge brownie with coconut ice cream.
Moon and sixpence 01225 460962
Really nice food, quiet place not too pricey - but not cheap either.
if you like fish
Fishworks 01225 448707 fantastic seafood only resturant, amazing fish/seafood
quaint fun food
The Walrus & Carpenter Restaurant 01225 314864
or
Cafe Retro 01225 339347
or the good ole "browns" chain which is always easy and has a good bar.
All are in the town center so plenty of time for a drink before / after and easy to get a taxi should you need one.
Pubs - bars
Pulp: drinks/cocktails pretty quiet a little small but nice and quite good fun
All Bar One: non smokiing so quiet at weekends
Grappa Bar - nice wine bar, quiet, good venue
Lounge bar, nice little place, great drinks, good venue
Bit Louder
RSVP
Revoutions
Slug and Lettuce
Pig and Fiddle (great pub - good beer selection)
Student
The Litton Tree
Salamander
Sarisions head (serves Bath Ales - so try some local drink)
The Bell (the biggest selection of beers you'll see)
The Huntsmen
The porter bar (still a good place)
The Boater
Places to avoid
The Star Inn
The hob goblin
Additional things to do that you may like more so if your taking photos
There is a boat trip down the river and back that takes in some good views and an alternate view of Bath - its quite nice if the weather is good.
Request, please take a massive resolution photo of the river / wier and some random nice places in bath that I can use as some desktop images, the bigger the resolution the better as I have a big desktop.
Atmosphere in bath in gerneral is really nice, can be busy during the day in town due to tourists, but still bussle and friendly, night time is normally really good, most of the students are still away so its a bit quieter than normal in town. There is rarley any trouble, but as with any city there is the odd night.
In general quite calm and easy, but there are places you can go to liven it up should you want to.
I'd take them myself but I suck as a photographer. buy me a drink if you bump into me ;)
Hope that all helps.
Cheers ikonia its appreciated.
Although I like taking photos my camera isnt that great. Its a 5 Megapixel super slim
casio thing so the quality isnt great but ill contact you if I get some OK looking shots.
And if I see an ernie look a like I'll be sure to buy him a drink.
theres a little fudge shop, i cant remember exactly where it is (really useful i know), called San Fransico Fudge, its absolutly gorgeous, well worth grabbing some
If you haven't been to one before I'd recommend stopping off at the Shakeaway for whatever you like made into a milkshake. (chocolate orange is a good one!)
San Fransico Fudge is off the main square by the the front of the abby, down a side street oposite the pump rooms man hall entrace.
Shakeaway is down a side steet of the main Milsome street drag, the side street is opposite HMV, and on the corner is a jewlers and next to a it a small card shop.
If you are interested in the shake's visit the smoothy shop in "the corridore" you will find it much better than the Shakeaway's and not full of kids.
Bath Ruby is also playing at home this weekend, so if you fancy it, its not a bad morning/afternoon out, even if you don't like rugby. Bath is a big Rugby town so makes a fuss over it. Check it out if you can.
I did the final 2 years of my PhD at Bath Uni, though thats 9 years ago now :shocked2: - interesting you say to avoid the hob goblin though. Though a little scruffy I had zero problem with that place, used to drink there every now and then. Has it taken a turn for the worse??Quote:

However if you look at what his plans are for the weekend, a goth pub with packed students smoking roll ups - isn't on his menu.
I don't mean avoid it because its rough, just because its so far off what he's after.
Good point - well made.Quote:
