portman building society offer some really good deals but i think you need the full £3000 to get them
National Savings 5.30%
Yorkshire B/S 5.25%
Halifax 5.15%
I am with M&S and have been for some years after starting with Smile. M&S are ususlly near the yop, and are quick to increase when rates rise and not too quick to reduce when they fall they are currently 4.75%.

Don't know if this is still ongoing but a year ago HSBC were offering their account holders a savings account with 8.29%.

I have a mini-cash ISA with HSBC. The interest rate is up to 4.30% AER/4.22% gross (for balances of £15,000+) but it's pretty low to start with. It's linked to my other HSBC accounts so i've not shopped around elsewhere.
In the early years you're not going to see much of a difference in the interest earned. However, once you've been putting in £3,000 per year for several years, a difference of just 1% in interest rates can make a significant difference.
i thought the halifax were doing a 7 or 8 % savings account.......and also Portman were doing an 8%? savings account too, according to both their TV adverts
Pretty sure with the Halifax one you need to have your current account through them as well, with £1000+ a month being payed into the account. That is also gross before Tax etc.
Don't know about the Portman one
stupid small print!
Be careful of seemingly too-good-to-be-true interest rates. They usually are.
They may be advertising a short-term promotinal rate that you'll get for the first three months that may provide you with £5 of extra interest in those first three months. After that you'll fall back to a normal rate and you may find other restrictions on moving the money around from the mini-cash ISA account.
With the HSBC saving account (which isn't an ISA BTW) I'm locked in for a year but that was fine by me. The interest rate will probably drop massively after the year is up.
