    Currys Interview

Well I just got off the phone, I've got an interview tomorrow (soon I know!).

So I need to get as much info on Curry's interviews as possible.

Anybody work there, or have experience with them? Any tips would be awesome.

Position applied for is Sales Colleague.

    Cheers!

I made the exact same thread a couple of weeks ago .

The interview is really easy. They just ask you questions like:

When is a time you have had to lead a group?
When is a time you have had to be tactful with someone?
When is a time you have been under pressure, and how did you cope with it?

    etc etc.

Currys is a great place to work. At least the branch I'm at is anyway. Basic pay isn't the best, but you get bonuses every 4 weeks, and another bonus every quarter.

Looks like I'll have to get me thinking cap on then, those questions would really get me if I was put on the spot.

    Sounds good though.

    Just a quick question.......

Should I mention about me being able to work fully during weekdays now, but I cannot in September? (because of college). Or shall I just say the times I can work when I begin college in september? (e.g. evenings on weekdays, and all day on weekends).

    Thank yee

The best idea is to tell them the hours you can work with any regularity, and they will ask if you are willing to work more hours if requested - which could be before you go back to college. I was going to get a job with them, though with the number of things coming up soon & uni in less than a months time, I couldn't make the time commitment they wanted

I went for an interview for PC World about 7 years ago and they asked the exact same questions...nice to see they change it often!
I think there were 6 questions in all. I think I got the 3 above and the only other one I can remember was "When is a time you had to be accurate?", or something like that. What was funny was that the interviewer holds a sheet that tells him what type of things should be in the answers, which I was able to sneakily read as I answered my questions

Hehe I once worked for PCWorld too...

The interview was not too difficult, probably easiest (if your a student) to use situations at school which would fit the bill to the question asked. Perhaps your parents may have some pointers towards interview technique.

TBH they aren't looking for a rocket scientist so if your brain is screwed on the right way they normally take you.

One thing to note is they will be looking to fill a particular shift slot (Something to ask at the end of the interview when they say that evil question "Do YOU have any questions?").

The place is normally dead during the day so they will probably want you working the evenings and one of the two weekend days (if not both if your lucky and you don't mind) (Try and have atleast one weekend day off a week or you WILL burn out) College is going to knock alot out of you and this job will take the rest...

Turn up smart, black trousers, (polished) shoes, shirt tucked in, and a tie. Sounds like a lot for the job but believe me (I sat in on some interviews) First impressions definitely count. (we didn't hire someone because they turned up all scruffy)

Good thing to note is that it is coming upto Xmas (I know it's months away but they will be preparing already) This means ample opportunity for extra hours if you can spare them over Xmas plus they normally run somekind of Xmas incentive which is paid out in March works out around an extra £500-600 pro-rata.

Not sure if Curry's staff are still paid the same as when I worked with the group but it used to be £basic+1%commission on everything you sold. Sell everything including the kitchen sink because if you don't someone else on your team is lining their pockets...

There you go, a few things on the interview and a few things to look forward to. I'm sure you would enjoy working their as long as you stand up to bad management

PS. Don't take any BS from the managers either... They will work you to the bone if your not careful. I regularily dragged my manager into the office and had an argument over many things. Good thing is (if your doing the job properly that is) it is remarkably difficult to fire someone once your in so I made their lives hell if they were mistreating staff. Got two General Managers relocated and retrained and scared off two Deputy Managers. Mwuhahaha they never knew what hit em!

moose, since you seem to have experience with this, what would you do in this situation?

I've been working for about 5 days now, and when I was working yesterday, I was outside the store 20 minutes before my shift started. I was banging on the door, and pressing the buzzer, but no-one came to let me in.

I've been put down as being late for that day, even though the manager admitted that the bell can't be heard from the staff room. I've explained to him what happened, but he won't admit that I wasn't late. I know its only one late, and it seems rather minor, but I've not been there long and it doesnt look good. It might come back and bite me later on as well.
