    indoor snowboarding in the UK?

I'm moving back to the UK on friday Which means i'm no longer going to be able to go and feed my snowboarding addiction every weekend when it gets colder.

So aside from the odd trip out here to go boarding, which obviously I can't do each weekend..does anyone know what the best indoor slopes in the UK are? or of a good site with some information?

As far as I can tell there are dry slopes (such as sheffield ski village) but i'm not interested in them - unless anyone has had some good experiences on them..i've never tried snowboarding on a dry slope but I imagine its crap?

And other than that theres the 3 Xscape locations (leeds, milton keynes, glasgow), and then tamworth snowdome.

My closest will be tamworth I guess, but if theres a really good place I've not heard about I could easily travel every few weeks So does anyone know of any others? Or can reccomend one of the above over the rest?

    any input appreciated

only problem with the x-scapes is theyre well expensive! up in glasgow its 21 quid an hour to get on the dry-slopes, and since only 50 people can use the slopes at a time, its usually fully-booked.

as far as i know, they're the only indoor slopes in the UK. Japan have got an indoor half-pipe, but theres nothing like that here

been wanting to go to one of these since they first opened, but the Glasgow one (opened only a couple of months ago) is the nearest and it's still 2 1/2 hours away. Expensive too

There's a pretty impressive dry slope in Rossendale (http://www.rltrust.co.uk/ski_rossendale.asp)

...and if you can wait a year http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/m...er/4792819.stm

Either way you'll just have to sit here jonesing all year round like me until you can get onto the real thing

The Norwich slope is outdoors. And its a dry slope, which means it hurts like hell if you dont manage a landing.

    not quite on-topic, but related:

has anyone tried mountain boarding in the UK (like snowboarding, but on wheels)? How does it compare to snowboarding? I have never tried snowboarding (been skiing though) but would like to - money and impending firstborn mean it's not going to happen just yet, so I though mountain boarding might be a good fill-in...

funny you should say that but i was thinking about mountain boarding yesterday it looks like a lot of fun!
but i am not sure about walking up a hill for ages carrying a mountain board just for a few minutes coming back down!

a day out would probably be 95% walking up hill - 5% having fun coming down !

Bracknell Ski Centre has had "snowboarder friendly" matting for a year and a half now. Basically its like carpet all the way down, fast in the dry, like ice in the wet (try teaching on that stuff, its a nightmare).
