    Black Tie events ...

Not being one for truly formal stuff, I'm a little confused.

Going to a charity ball, and its black tie. Does that mean I need a proper black dinner suit? Obviously just a black tie with say a navy blue suit or similar would look wierd

If it is, I'm not paying the cash to rent something from moss bro's or similar.

Black Tie means a black dinner suit, white shirt, black bow tie and black shoes. Every man should have black dinner suit, or something close enough that it can be repurposed for the occassion.

Agree, Moss do good sets starting from £50 to £150 for the more expensive brands.

Ihave attended black tie events in a black suite with a black tie, not a bow tie, but this depends on the event. If it is a formal event then dinner suite is a must, if it is a "black tie" event eg: a fun event then a black suite/tie should be spot on.

you may hate it, but being the only one not in the correct clobber, makes you look an idiot and will ruin your night. Hire one if need be.

Black tie to me means an evening/dinner suit, though I usually try to wear a coloured bow tie to brighten things up. But I'm an attention seeker. It's all me me me.
