I was watching a program on discovery about the V-bombers and they were saying that the Vulcan could outmanouver the Russian MiGs of the time at it's operating height! The damn thing could even do a roll. It was that good. I've seen footage of it taking off and going into a climb. The angle is so steep for such a large aircraft, it really is amazing

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
My dad will be happy, he used to make them He said him and "the lads" used to play around in the empty fueslage on breaks, and play cards.
Whoo for having fun at work!
I remember seeing one in the RAF museum in London and couldn't believe how massive it was. The size of the bomb bay was incredible. They had another V-series bomber there too, but I forget which one.

Sorry to put a downer on this, but it will never fly. Not due to the standard of the work being done on it, or for lack of trying by the volunteers etc, but due to Civil Aviation Rules.
There was (and infact, still is) a Vulcan at Southend Airport. It is currently airworthy, but has remained grounded for the last 3+ years - because it hasnt got the ok to fly Personally, I would love to see them fly again, but unless theres a change in policy, it doesn't sound hopeful
(This is true to the best of my knowledge - don't flame me for any inaccuracies as Aviation is not my forte)

The Vulcan at Southend *along with the one at Wellesbourne* has been grounded since it landed there in 1986. Also - neither are airworthy.Originally Posted by dave87
It still did high speed taxiing though *although it wont do any over the next year or so. Due to time needed for serious maintenance - will probably next run in 2008*
The CAA has given their blessing to the project and once it has been through it's major service and required modifications *most of which are done* and has been through a CAA inspection to confirm airworthyness, then it will fly.
Currently first flight is scheduled for March/April 2007 time. This is so it can lead the Flypast over London on June 17th. It's been invited by the MOD to take part in the flypast which commemerates the 25th anniversay of the Falkands Conflict.
Anyway - as I was at the roll-out on Thursday I kinda feel obliged to post links to some of the photo's I took while there.

However, he couldn't get it moved and the ex-owner started charging him rent. So it got scrapped.
They made a right hash of it as well - they tried to save the nose section *to sell it* - but ended up letting it drop several feet a couple of times. It ended up on Ebay for £2k - and no-one sold it.
Someone approached them independently and asked them how much they wanted - answer £4k. They walked away.
It appears that the nose section may have been scrapped now as well.
