Billy Connolly obviously :)
Bill Bailey, I think he's a legend :)
Lee Evans cracks me up, peter kay was good, never really watched any of the actor comedians like eddie murphey, jim carey but im sure there good. people like jack dee, billy connely, jasper carrot, dont really do much for me
Peter Kay and Jimmy Carr.
Edit: Yeah Lee Evans is a favourte of mine too.
Double post, oops. Remove please.
ban him :D jk
Bill Hicks, legendary comedian. Jimmy Carr, Dane Cook, Chris Rock, Richard Pryor, Billy Conelly.
Ross Noble, his meandering stories are great, woe betide the late comers as they often get woven in. Alan Carr, Jasper Carrot and Billy Conelly. I didn’t know Jim Carey did stand-up, I’ve love to see that.
Peter Kay is a legend :)
Steve Coogan, Chris Morris.
Went off Peter Kay after he ran out of material and went on a rampage of cash ins and re-releases.
I think ill give The League Of Gentlemen another run soon as well.
Al Murray... :)
Kevin "Bloody" Wilson - funny but not for the faint-hearted :)
Roy Chubby Brown :)
Lee Evans!
First time I saw one of his, I was watching the Wembley one, while eating chinese.. Next day I was scraping egg fried rice off my walls because I laughed so hard I spat it out everywhere.
Peter Kay is ok, not too funny but made me laugh a little.
I've got some Kevin "bloody" Wilson somehwere that Someone sent me.... it had Kid He swears a bit and Hey Santa Clause on it! think it had more on it, I can't remember what it was :D hilarious stuff! bloody excellent! :DQuote:

Rich Hall. Very funny.
Bill Bailey for teh win!
Bill Bailey, Ross Noble, Dylan Moran and Peter Kay (not that funny anymore).
I saw Bill bailey last month - after 2 years of sell-out events at Edinburgh Fringe - was well worth the wait!
Up until two years ago, Ross Noble was my favourite - saw him again last year and not only was his material stale, but I kinda thought a bit desperate and scraping the barrel.
Dara O'Brien has always had me in stitches tho, as had Omid Djalili . . .however, the one person who has made an impression on me this year is Doug Stanhope - perhaps the most unpolitically correct person that can get away with what he says/does. Though if he has a series of gigs, it seems better to catch him at the beginnning rather than the end of his stint because apparently he requires much more alcohol and gets a bit desperate.
Bill Hicks is a classic legend - however, it disappoints myself that I couldn't actually experience him. Rich Hall does a good show, though only seen him twice, but he manages to appeal to whichever crowd he gets.
Al Murray is so funny, and so so right.
Bill Bailey is just funny.
Lee Evans is sometimes funny, but always wrong. I hate it when people make observational humour and haven't actually got anything logical to make jokes about.
In conclusion;
Al Murray > *

nice chap too, After the show he offered to sign stuff and have photos taken , ... he must have been there an hour, i was close to the back and he was still jolly at the end of the que.
(got a tee-shirt signed and a photo :woowoo: )
Bill Hicks, Robert Newman, David Baddiel, Steve Cogan, Eddie Izzard.
Ooh, too many to choose from! Well, first of all the regulars from I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, Tony Hawks, Graham Norton, Peter Kay, Ross Noble, Dara O'Briain, Bill Bailey, Stephen Fry, Chris Langham, Ian Hislop (if he counts!), Linda Smith...
Paul Merton is a genius though. Went to see him live with some of the comedy store a little while ago, the best £20 I ever spent!
I cannot stand that ******. What was that seriously wrong comment he made a few years ago? it was about the Ken Bigley wasn't it? the guy who was executed in Iraq.Quote:

ricky gervais, peter kay, chris tucker and jimmy carr.
Jimmy Carr, Chris Rock, Billy Connelly are my favourites atm. Never really got into Ricky Gervais' style of comedy. Also a fan of Lee Evans, though you can't beat the oldies - such as Jasper Carrot :)
This was widely reported but some sources say Connolly denies saying it. The last link gives an interesting analysis of the joke.Quote:

Loving Bill Bailey at the mo, plus Dylan Moran is very funny, and i've always loved Jack Dee's stuff (kinda surprised not many people have mentioned him in this thread)
jack dee, ricky gervais. dont find connely funny, nor peter kay really.
Ross Noble is someone I have great respect for - seems like one of the people that can actually genuinely come out with material off-the-cuff.
I do actually like Billy Connolly, even though he has lost some of his edge in the past couple of years.
Stewart Lee is another good one, has a brilliant command of the English language, as does Robin Ince. In the past, Robin has caused me to almost literally (yes, really literally, not that fake literally that people sometimes use) choke from laughing so much.
Although I don't particularly like Johnny Vegas' material, I can't help but admire his ability to go on stage with no actual prepared material and absolutely slay the audience. He's one of those people that just seems genuinely funny.
Alan Carr's standup material is excellent - another genuinely likeable person, but saying that, The Friday Night Project is awful, cringeworthy TV. Any time I see a trailer for it, I just want to shake him, screaming "WHY ALAN, WHY?!?!?!"
I've never been a fan of Peter Kay for many, many reasons; I don't particularly like his material (I swear I will kill the next person that quotes "garlic bread" at me) and he's a completely fake and shallow person - nothing at ALL like his onstage persona. A mate of mine used to live across the road from him and the jolly, happy and friendly attitude he puts over on the stage couldn't be further from the truth. Also (and I had heard these stories before he became famous, so you can't accuse anyone of being 'jealous') he used to act incredibly selfishly and arrogantly towards other acts, 'borrowing' their best material to use in his act. I also don't like his controlling attitude, although some may disagree with me on this - the way he has to control every single aspect of anything to do with anything he's created. And then of course there's the DVD release of a gig with the same material as the last live DVD he released. Finally, I don't like the fact that he accepted money from John Smiths to advertise their beer, despite him being a 'strict' teetotal apparently due to his father's alcoholism. But hey, he's not exactly the first celebrity to abandon their principles for cash, is he?
There are other comedy circuit acts that I admire as well. Not household names, but I thoroughly reccommend them - Dan Nightingale (probably my favourite non-household name act - brilliant, brilliant, brilliant), Toby Hadoke (Dr Who geek and good friend, so I am biased :-)), Seymour Mace (Strange looking Geordie bloke - appeared in "I Deal"), Gary Delaney (absolute MASTER of the one-liners) and probably loads more that I can't think of.
Yes, I'm a comedy freak :-P
Bill Bailey is always a laugh, Al Murry Pub Landlord is a goodun to :D and you can't beat Eddie Murphy's Raw and Delierious :D George Carling is also a top notch stand up comedian
Agreed, especially when paired with Richard Herring in Fist of fun...Quote:

bill bailey is still my fav after seeing him a few years back on his part troll tour, fantastic!!
recently iv been going round a load of local comedy nights and found some really good comedians, unfortunately i cant remember any of there names altho i have seen johnny vegas once and he was steaming pissed and wanted to destroy the pub we were in, brilliant! i have never seen the crowd get such a slating before and i dont think i will again
Sorry for bringing this topic back up again but I think Alan Carr and Paul Thomas need mentioning as they are both fantastic.
Lee Evans, Jasper Carrot, Jimmy Carr, Jack Dee and Bill Bailey. No particular order.
Lee Evans got boxset, and some of them he does use the same jokes. But suppose that is normal for standups?
Billy Connolly - Absolute ****** in my opinion. Not even funny. Well Not that I have watched some of his stand ups all the way through. I think he jsut puts me off with his constant screaming (whenever i see him doing stand up he is screaming)
It is normal - and anyone should be able to appreciate that a professional comedian that does several gigs a week isn't going to be able to create brand new material for each show. They need to fine tune it, get it just right and make it work well.Quote:

Whether it's fair or not, situations are different for the bigger household name comedians. Taking into account people like Lee Evans, Peter Kay, Billy Connolly etc, people generally go to their gigs because it's them. However, when it comes to going to comedy clubs, whether it's a small gig in a pub function room or somewhere like The Comedy Store or Jongleurs, people mostly go there just to watch 'comedy' rather than to watch any one act in particular. In other words, it's far more likely for people to be familiar with a comic's older material if it's a comedian from the telly, rather than someone they've probably never heard of at a comedy club.
(oh yeah, and I like Jack Dee and Jasper Carrot as well :))
Dave Gorman.
YES! Of course! How on earth could I forget him?Quote:

I have plenty of time for Bill Bailey for being funny without swearing ( dont get me wrong I like a good curse as much as the next person , but it should not be the only reason an act is funny )
Eddie Izzard ( but only in french ;) )
Different Comedians Appeal to me at different times though.
I quite like some of the more "angry / ranty "comics eg. George Carlin / Dennis Leary / Early alexi Sayle , not forgetting the finest of them all , Bill Hicks :)
Other Times the dry Comedians do it for me - Dylan Moran / Jack Dee etc.
Bill Bailey.
Bill bailey and dave gorman no contest.
mine will hav to be billy connely hes hallaurius
