    Isn't that sex discrimination

I feel for you, I was lucky enough to have my last job fall into my lap, but now that my contract is finished, I have to search for a part time job while at uni - well, gotta pay the bar bill somehow

If it was a ladies clothing shop I wouldn't be suprised.

Do not get downheartened about these knockbacks Noni. I've a close friend who's applied all over for jobs and they keep knocking him back as he has all the relevant qualifications, yet they will not employ him due to not having enough "experience"

How do they expect people to get experience if they will not employ them

I would really follow the advice of people that have tried modifying your CV and cover letter. Always emphasis the positive and describe how your experiences have developed your skills and person.

Once you have written it all, reread it for mistakes (obviously) but also reread for passive sentances that imply weakness, such as "I like to think i am" -> "I am".

Also your website is temporarily unavaliable, this does not look good if someone wants to look at it.

As for looking for jobs, go to the temp agencies, but also ask friends and people that already work if they know of any jobs. Maybe they can get you an in with management. - Life isn't about what you know, but who you know

I was going to say try bar work, but just realised you are under 18 so thats a no go.

If you still need a job I can advise you to look at ClickAJob.co.uk. When I needed a job, this site was really helpful.
What I really liked is a possibility to search vacancies from lots of job boards at one place. It's very fast and efficient. There is one feature that impressed me greatly - you can search jobs by location entering a UK city or postcode into the location field.

    I can't believe no-one's suggested Currys yet!

Honestly though Steve's re-write will do you well and my advice is just keep putting your CV out there at every chance. It may look bleak in the beginning but pretty soon someone will bite.

Also ask as many people as you can to read and suggest improvements to your CV, everyone has their own little tricks and it can't hurt to get as many as you can.

Aw bless, getting that first job... Just ring them and get as many application forms from as many high street shops as you can get and be ultra polite and really feign interest in the job...

say that you really value their customer service or if its a local shop say that you love the laid back wholesome atmosphere and that you think that it would be ideal to work in...

    good luck

.. come work at homebase.. i'm 17 and working the part time while i do my A-levels - best rates of pay i've found for my age group and the work is dull but easy (all you want tbh). Most of the stores near me are desprate for staff becuase nobody thinks of homebase as an interesting place to work (.. its not, but if your part time then that's not so important)

This time of year it's easier to find some sort of work along the highstreet as so many retail places are gearing up for christmas. I've read the Argos is looking to double it's work force from now until the New Year to help ease the rush. The big 4 supermarkets are doing the same but they they won't be taking on so many new starters as Argos.

What else can I do? I want to work over the weekend. Some electronics shop or sports shop is ideal but I dont really mind anywhere.

    Thanks.
Newspaper? Get it really early in the morning and phone all the places that look suitable (early in the morning so you're first to phone).
