Ohhh that is awful.
...... taking the pee out of the fella's death isnt disrespectful?
I really don't think he'd mind people taking the pee :)
as said on the other Irwin post by someone and by Norky above......as it is believed that his TV persona was genuine and not an act, I think Steve would be having a chuckle at this wherever he is now. Probably croc heaven lol :)
and c'mon people, that pic is funny
Although I obviously didn't know him, I think it's fairly safe to assume that someone of his demenour would find that funny.Quote:

infact, let this humble celebration of irwin continue!

Aye. The man will never see his wife again, never see his kids again, miss them growing up, etc, etc. I bet he's well chuffed that a few unfunny nobs on a tech message board are taking the piss about his tragic death.
Spot on lads, as always.
want to make a difference? donate to an australian conservation charity.Quote:

do you *honestly* think this guy would have wanted the world to sit about making dianaesque displays of false sorrow? he dedicated his life to his work, and both he and his (similarly mad conservationist) wife knew full well the risks they both took on with vigor & zeal every day in their work.
death is quite obviously a tragedy. in the face of tragedy, it's easy to become depressed, despondent, etc. it's by laughing at tragedy that we overcome it - and as the final quite shows, irwin was more than prepared for how he'd die - and the reaction he'd want to get out of people.
if you're really not happy about people trying to lighten the mood, then fine. but if you actually want to make a difference, then try a donation to australia zoo (which is owned by the widow, as it happens)
Well Said - there is far too much 'professional' mourning online these days - we're not all scousers you know ( lo Boris Johnson :) )
I have to agree with directhex.
Despite your sarcasm, you're probably closer to the mark than you think.Quote:

Keep his memory alive with happiness, not crocodile tears.*
* pun not intended, but left in anyway :-)
I'll be sure to laugh at and mock your own tragic death then, should it occur before mine, entirely with a view to lightening the mood, of course. What would you suggest? Perhaps I could wear a clown suit to your funeral?Quote:

You are not making an attempt to lighten the mood, you are taking the piss because someone in the public eye has died. Post your pictures if you like, but don't try to justify them with this bull****. Please.
Just tell it like it is - someone famous died, you are not arsed, and its a chance to get a cheap laugh.
Stewart, I think your reaction is inappropriate in this case.
his wife, with whom he went crocodile hunting as a honeymoon. his kids, one of whom was going to present the show he died filming. it's not as if he was doing dangerous things in secret.Quote:

if i die in a car crash, that's a tragedy. if i die when a rack of linux boxes falls on me, that's funny
spot the difference

I agree with Hex, yes to die is tragic but to die doing what you love is a good way to go and I'd rather people have a laff and take the piss when I die than sit about going on about how disrespectful it is.
Stewart , if you can hear the rest of us from that high horse of yours , there is a world of difference between someone you have met and know and someone you have seen on the TV. Yes its unfortunate for his wife and kids - loosing someone close is never easy , but I'm sure they'll cope just fine without you charing in on your morale steed attempting to get upset on someone you dont know's behalf.Quote:

If, on the other hand, your previously espoused atheist position is correct, then he's dead and gone and won't be happy or unhappy about anything.
Personally, I enjoyed his programmes; I thought that he was barking, but undeniably and avowedly committed to the wildlife with which he worked so closely. Anyone watching his programmes would have noted that he was rather a danger junkie who enjoyed doing things that other people (with some justification) would have thought were seriously daft.
Nail. Head. Bang. Personally, I'll say a prayer in his memory and hope to meet him in another place. Until then, some will mourn solemnly, some will be afflicted with grief, and some will remember that he was a daft bugger who liked a joke and took himself as lightly as he took his wildlife work seriously.Quote:

I knew that joke was coming as soon as I heard the news
People die all the time, get over it. Death isn't fun, get over it.
No-one on this forum, or any other, has any right to say what his wife or family feel, or what he would of wanted. none of you knew him so just relax, and enjoy the idle banter.
wow, i wasnt expecting this much of a response. I personally don't see the picture I posted as offensive in the slightest. Hell i think most people, even you stewart, would prefer people to remember you fondly rather than as a p***k, which is unfortunately what you are coming across as. If you dont like the picture dont keep visiting this post. Surely something you find offensive wouldnt be something you keep coming back for more of.
I didnt know the man, but i bet wherever he is that he is a bit peeved that a stingray got him before a croc! :)
p.s. and stewart, chill out and smoke a joint or something.
Well firstly I think your speaking a bit too strongly there referring to Stewart as a "male genital area" This is a family forum and not a hurl abuse forum.
Secondly I dont think any of these pictures are offensive in any way shape or form. But what I do find offensive is that ebay is using Steve Irwins death as a plug to its online auction site as witnessed here.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/09...y_steve_irwin/
well....what a result for the old boy.....he got talked about in life....but HELL.....if his natural history work doesn't get a huge boost from this, nothing will!
Greektony.......no more rude words please.....it's not nice. Stewart is simply putting across his feelings, and while we don't all agree....he aint a prick....so no more rude words pls.
sorry, edited it out. I just can't understand what his problem is. If he doesnt like the picture no one is forcing him to come back again. it really grates me when someone comes across as holier than god, which as i understand it is rather ironic as he doesnt believe in one
I love you as well, Tony. :D
you're a smarmy bastard too!!!!!
I've donated quite an amount before.. :) (at least before his tragic death)
Having lived in Australia for a quite a long time, my sympathies go to his loved ones..
As much as ppl around the world think that he's a nut case, I think he's just a down to earth aussie. Rarely do you see ppl carry their local attitudes to the TV screen. He's as down to earth as it gets..
Good man, will be lot missed..

A nice way to remember him I think :).
i thaught it was very funny. you obviously cant actually buy a dead steve irwin there so its not like there selling bits of him offQuote:

LOL I acutlaly laughed at that one, I loved the guy tbh. At first I used to think of him as an idiot, but he was a real legend. I think they should make a statue of him made in Aussie land :)Quote:
