Hi guys im back at school now and i cant get on too a lot of webpages. Is there anything i can do to get around this?
I have seen sites before that you can use to type in a webpage and it sometimes gets through but im not too sure so if you could give me some tips that would be great. :)

failing that run a proxy at home, or a telnet server and relay off that..

If you can find the open ports, just VNC to your PC at home.
take note : If you do sucessfully bypass any content filtering at school - you are breaking the terms of any AUP's in place. Its not unknown for people to be expelled for it.
so before you try them , dont forget to ask yourself , is your entire education worth it ?
As a fact, I got suspended for hacking RM systems and banned from my IT GCSE too. It seems smart at the time, but I'd recommend not bothering. (ps using babblefish translate will get round most, but you won't get photos.)
Oh, sorry. Suspended AND arrested. Charged with computer missue acts 1 and 2.

speaking as a sys admin myself I if I cought users bypassing my content filter , I would not be happy and would speak to HR about it.
I'm an IT tech myself, and I've often been questioned on my lack of IT Gcse. So I have the choice of lie, or tell the truth and try to explain I was trying to be cool and rebellious, not malicious. Either way, employees do NOT like hackers.
To be honest, websense filters stuff you shouldn't be on. I didn't find it TOO restrictive, but it may have changed in 6 years.
when i was in VIth Form i got caught tinkering with the comps, now looking back i got off lucky, only a warning :S Seriously though its not worth bypassing cause when you get caught you'll be sorry
I did this myself, and did it very well and still got caught. I wouldn't bother, you obviously have access to hexus so it's all good :P

My College are extremly strict about this stuff unfortunately (unlike my secondary school).
They're not dumb either.. you could get around things by tunneling, but you can get in trouble plainly for that at my college.
I guess the safest thing to do would be to VNC to a home computer and do it that way, at least if you do get caught out you could say you were sorting out school/college work on a home computer.

Using a specialist made keylogger that still ran regardless of log off, I got a teacher to change my password. Printed the log file. I dont go looking at dodgy stuff, sometimes we have to go to sites outside of the filter for research and resources (And yes, Wikipedia was even filtered at one point!), plus when we're inbetween lessons, I like to have look around some news pages and forums, nothing 'Bad', and being as we are on a course to become future IT Techs, the guys do seem to be a bit lenient with it (Apart from one guy who thought he would mess with my FF config settings while I wasnt there, not thinking that I know how to reverse his changes.)

Lol well i do agree with everything that has been posted so i suppose what i will do is use vnc. That way you arent really bypassing anything you are just accesing your own computer and doing it on it.

i have tried vnc from my school on quite a few different ports........
they disable activex and java, so it kinda sucks!
they block sites with the word proxy in!
it sucks!!!

EDIT: and just be thankful you aren't stuck with Win 3.11 or Acorn RoscOS. Only the computing classes had the internet back then and that was a single ISDN line shared between about 24 machines. No idea what the browser was back then, but it made Netscape 1.2 look good.

The best one was when they first got a program called net support which let the teahcers pc control/ monitor the students PCs.
It wasnt too long before some bright spark googled net support - downloaded the client program and was running it to control everyones pc lol
The funnyest part was the ICT teacher running about trying to stop it and people typing "Hi <insert teachers name here>" on word.
And the worse anyone got was a sturn talking to!

No idea about how secure it is (not very by the sounds of it), but I've used it briefly here at work a few weeks back, and it's quite an impressive piece of kit. Symantec Web Security blocks alot of the stuff anyway.
But to be honest I don't think its worth risking your job/education just because you want to get on a website at work/school/college, just go on the site at home. :)
My mates school use something similar to net support. He brought up google images on someones computer while they were in a lesson and typed "naked boys" :Oops:
The persons whose computer he hacked got suspended for 2 weeks but before the 2 weeks were up he confessed his crime and got suspended himself.
I personally think he got off quite lightly.
heh, i got suspended for writing a script that would delete the root directory of anyone who opened a particular folder on my drive. the sys admin wasnt happy, i got a suspension, they never came up with a viable reason why they were breaching my privacy :P
ok i tried using vnc viewer today and it wont connect. anybody got any ideas?
