Has anybody used a Kneeling Chair?
Firstly, for those who are thinking 'what the devil is a Kneeling Chair':
http://www.staples.co.uk/ENG/images/...2077_1_enl.jpg
Apparantly they're a specialist chair that gives an ideal spine position for sitting, especially when using computers.
I'm just interested cause they're also pretty small. I have a big leather chair in the Study, but I need something much smaller and tidier for the desk and PC in my bedroom. This thing would easily fit under the corner area of my desk too so in terms of size it'd be ideal.
But are they any good? Has anybody used one?
Can you actually sit on one for an hour or two without your legs falling asleep?
Most importanly, would you recommend one?
That image above is taken from Staples.co.uk but they're selling it for £49.99 which I believe to be way too much. Providing I get some thumbs up recommendations, I'll shop around for one. :)

Talk about being a slow shopper, I just ordered one of these!!
Started the thread on September 20th 2006, ordered the chair on August 10th 2007. Didn't take me long to make my mind up eh? Got one on eBay just now for £45 including delivery, I'm very happy with the price, I'll let you know how I feel about the chair itself in a few days time. :)
Re: Has anybody used a Kneeling Chair?
Ive tried one and liked it for the time spent on it, but ive never spent long periods of time sitting on one.
Re: Has anybody used a Kneeling Chair?
i used to have one, and although its great after a while, you really do need to stick with it, i imagine the aches other people mention are because they're core muscles aren't strong enough, this should sort itself out within a few days.
Re: Has anybody used a Kneeling Chair?
Had one of these ages ago - but waiting for the metal ones to come in stock :)

I do, but they cost....... wait for it....... around £900:O_o1: Still interested? If so I'll give you the details....
Re: Has anybody used a Kneeling Chair?
It hurts my knees when I spend any time on one of those chairs. I don't think any chair is able to 'cure' a bad back. Books are the best thing for improving posture. Zhan Zhuang, Feldenkrais method & Egoscue method spring to mind. Sort out your posture with these types of excersises & methods and you'll soon find pretty much any old office chair will do just fine.
Re: Has anybody used a Kneeling Chair?
I'm with most of the people here too, not good for long-term use. They can feel great when you first use them, but after a while they get uncomfortable and you'll start shifting about and that's where they become worse for your back.
Re: Has anybody used a Kneeling Chair?
There good for your back, m8 had one a few years back which he swapped back to his normal office chair when his back was better so I ended up sitting on it when I was there.
Dont think I'd replace mine with one tho, I do have a bad back but I just dont think there comfortable over a long gaming session.
Re: Has anybody used a Kneeling Chair?
We have them in the office here. We have three types, though all are rockers. Yes, rocking kneely chairs.
We have one version that has arms, oddly enough. but the rest are pretty good. I like them because I spend 90% of my time in front of a monitor and my bum gets pretty hot in summer if I don't get up and wander around. The kneely versions allow you to stay cool. Also my back is fine (always was) and I have no new aches and pains.
I also have a big black leather thing that is really comfy, but doesn't go close enough to the desk, so I use it purely to impress the cleaners. Sad or what?
Re: Has anybody used a Kneeling Chair?
My Kneeling Chair arrived on Monday morning and so far so good, I'm really really happy with my purchase! I've only sat on it for two days of course, but it's exactly what I wanted.
I should point out that I don't really have a bad back at all, on the contrary I'm quite fit and healthy. However, the chair is for my bedroom and the way the screen is positioned, if I want to watch tele from bed I need a chair without a big back taking up all the room. So I figured why not go for a kneeling chair? They're low, quite comfortable and if it's supposedly good for your back, can't be a bad thing in the long run. The chair is the perfect size in my room and it even tucks under the desk perfectly. Very pleased with that.
As for comfort, it's surprisingly comfortable, I got used to it straight away. The only part that I'm getting used to is having the knees on the front pads, my knees might get a bit sore after sitting on it for a long long time.
So far so good, very happy with my chair! Happy with the chappy who sold it on eBay for £45 too. :)

So Parm, if you needed a chair that doesn't get in the way when you watch TV I guess your Lasik went well? Care to update us? Perhaps by reviving the original thread. Inquiring minds need to know.
Re: Has anybody used a Kneeling Chair?
I been thinking of getting one for a long time.
How high can they go. My desk is a metre up for the keyboard and the monitor is another 30-40 cm.
Re: Has anybody used a Kneeling Chair?
Brucelles, I did post an update just the other day :) It's over in that thread: http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.p...12#post1186112
I've got a check up at the opticians today at 12 too so will update again after that. ;)

My chair is at the lowest setting right now and my desk is 70cm up with the monitor another 20cm up after that. I am tall though, 6'3" so my chairs are usually on the lowest setting. The adjustment thing on my chair looks to raise it another 15cm or so, I think it should be fine for your setting though, it'll probably depend on your height more than anything mate. I still think mine is slightly high for my monitor, have to look down ever so slightly. Chair doesn't go any lower though, think I'm just too tall!
