    Need some help- Weird question-

    A friend of mine has sold his 7800GTX and has to send it off-Thanks to me! A 7900GTX just looks so nice! But now he has a better comp! We have (or had) the same graphics card.

    Anyway, his dad hates him screwing around with the computer, so what excuse can he give for the machine not working for a couple of days?

    I was thinking of something to do with the cables but Im not so sure.

    Lol, thanks, and it is a weird request.

    Take the mobo battery out or something, or leave the CMOS jumper switch on the reset position? I had a mobo left on that once, it kept booting up and shutting down almost instantly after I turned it on. Scared the crap out of me for a day though because it looked like there was something faulty, since all the lights in the base unit flashed on etc and then went off almost immediately

    I'm obviously not sure how this would work for your mates computer, I'm just going by personal experience So don't sue! (And the gear in the computer I was talking about was perfectly fine afterwards)

    Just give a PC World answer then;

    Your hyperdrive has consequently made the 8th generation hardware comprimise with its 4th generation compatibility, rendering the giganet useless until replaced.

    I ran my PC without the mobo battery for a day or so while I was investigating another issue. I am fairly sure that it won't do any harm. If you want to be really carefull, you can allways swap it for a flat one from one of those key ring torches.

    With a flat mobo battery, the PC will loose the clock, and always boot up with the time set on the 1st January for whatever year the motherboard was designed. On many systems it also affects performace because the PC goes into a super safe mode, where the CPU multiplier and memory speed are reduced to the minimum allowed.
