    Selling a domain name?

I quite like the idea of making a quick buck or two from my domain name, Vini.co.uk.

In such i've listed it on SEDO today just to see what interest it may bring.

Anyone got experience in selling/pricing domains?

I'd sell if the price was right, but not sure how to value domains.

From what I gather Vini (or there abouts) has a 'wine' relationship in italian, I think the correct term is Vino, certainly is in Spanish.

When i was at uni, about 5 years ago, i owned the URL - www.amazingprices.co.uk - I could not believe it was available when i was looking for an URL for a uni project i was doing. I registered it for a £1 and listed in several places but i was suprised that i got exactly zero interest and i did not re-register it so someone else has it now. It's now one of those wierd and pointless "Favourite searches" things now. Good luck though.

BTW, Vini does not mean anything in English so i would try a few foriegn dictionaries and market it in the country in means something i guess.

I still own www.pc-gamer.co.uk , and it's listed on sedo at the moment too...has been for a year actually with no interest.

I'm surprised really - I get a fair amount of traffic (even though there is just a barely started website on there at the moment - the only nice thing is the banner lol).

If anyone knows of any other places to list domains on i'll stick it on there too

For now I will keep it though, it's useful to have a domain for easy access to whats on my web server, and you never know if i will one day get off my ass and do a proper website for it (I played with the idea of an ezine/review site...but abandoned the project just before uni)

I use to have the domain pro-gaming.com. I wasn't looking to sell it but I was approached by a german guy. He asked how much I wanted for it so I said I'd be willing to hand it over for something like £500 and he was fine with that. To transfer it I had to get a letter notarised by a lawyer which cost me something like £90. I made a nice profit on it though

    EDIT:
He did make a gaming site but it seemed to disappear a few years ago.

McClane you have hit the nail on the head there. It is a case of waiting for somebody to approach you. I mean of course put it up on the domain sale websites but at the end of the day you are 99%certain of selling to somebody who just approaches you direct. I have bought 3 domian names now by approaching people directly, usually paying between £300 and £500.

Another tip is to have your contact email and "This domain is for sale" on your website.

With VINI your problem may be that you have the .co.uk. and almost without exception most people will be looking for the .com. No point marketing to another country with .co.uk

FYI vini=wines in italian (plural of vino = wine).
