Yes the plumbing trde is good and there used to be a lot of demand for plumbers but now it seems the whole of the UK has got wind of this and descided to become a plumber! I hear carpentry is up next for demand....... however you can never be sure. Theres so many rumours flying around at the moment about so many things, i never know what to believe any more!!
You have been warned!!
Average earnings for a plumber in the UK is about £23,000 pa - although some do make a lot more . All the colleges have been massively oversubscribed for places on courses.
Plumber?
.... cant see much money in it to be honest. Electrician yes.
Maybe you can only earn 23000 - but I'm sure when/if you get around to starting your own business you'll be earning significatly more.
The job market for plumbers - and anyone in the building trade has been huge for over a hundred years now - more than you can say for techies.
Now go away before I taunt you a second time.
The reason that Plumbing ws touted as a good career move, financially, was that there was a huge shortage of them, and so plumbers could charge what they wanted, more or less.
I think the situation has changed in the last year or so.
problem is, when you get into pluming, 95% of plumbers do gas as well, but that means you have to be corgi registered, £5000 to start and then £2500 every 3 years iirc.. thats if your self employed.. its paid for by the comapny if you work for one
Plumbers, electricians, carpenters - all those trades are excellent if you don't want to go into higher education.
My father works in the building trade and they're desperate for these kind of craftsmen. The hours are long but the rewards and employment oppotunities are great, far greater than for the majority of university graduates.
