    Question Intercepting calls

    Hi,

I am new to this website and was hoping someone could help with this problem my friend recently experienced!

Basically; my friend, called her daughter from her vodaphone mobile phone (w85i) who recently brought it on contract. Her daughter answered on mobile which is connected to O2 network model (D500 samsung).

The story is she asked her daughter to meet her in town and half way through conversation her daughter got cut off but the line was still open... so my friend shouted her daughter and then a man came on the line and said "i just kidnapped your daughter" .

"The daughter" was cut off and then the man intecepted so she never heard anything... but my question is:

    1) how did he know she was talking to her daughter, unless he was listening to there conversation???

    2) how did he intercept the call between two mobile phones across a distance of approxmately 40 metres?

    3) when she reported this to the police they asked if the call was still on her mobile and the call my friend made to her daughter was not stored on her phone... how was it deleted?

Obviously we are suspecting someone who can access the call and delete records.. This has been reported to the police but my friend would like some advice on how this was possbily done? Please only reply useful information.

In answer to the question, I have no idea what happened. Complete guess would be a cloned sim card. Who/where was it bought from?

    Cloned, possible but very unlikely....

Again possible but very unlikely is an idiot engineer intercepting the call at the cell via the Megastream link back to the Voda switch.

GSM is inherently quite secure and not open to much abuse, I would put it down to a moron at Voda somewhere along the call route. (Even if you call 40 meters, the call is still switched at the exchange that is local to the callers)
