edinburgh is a very expensive place to live. I was supposed to go there but did the maths and realised i'd have to work a 9-5 job in order to feed, clothe and keep a roof over my head since my mum just couldnt afford to help me out. So i decided just to stick to glasgow.

It is indeed. But Id still rate it as one of my best cities to be living in

I think Edinburgh Uni is quite high listed on the "University Leaderboard", (well, it was when I applied.) - but it would really depend on what you're doing.

Brunel's very good, and has excellent climbing facilities. Its alos where Apple get most of their UK graduates from.

Quite a few of my friends went to Portsmouth because they'll let you no matter what A-level grades you get.

They all enjoyed themselves, it seems. Most of them even have jobs now.

I appied to: (doing fun geography)

    Bath spa
    Royal holloaway
    Loughborough
    Brunel
    Exeter
    Bristol

Portsmouth is one hell of a skechy place, i live about 15miles away. and my brother goes to school there. He got punched for no reason by some nobbers the other day.

Brunel looks nice, have go to an openday soon i think.

I wouldn't say Edinburgh's expensive when in comparison to any other large city (it's nowhere near London prices).

I'd reccomend comming here though, loadsa stuff to do, great nightlife, people are great, the uni's very good both in terms of the course and the things the uni puts on for students.

I'm in first year atm, the accomodation's amazing (en suite, fast internet etc), the food they provide isn't great though but I think you'll find that anywhere.

I'm doing Computer and Management Sciences and the Uni's one of the best for both. You might want to do research into how it is for your course, try the uni guides on the times and guardian websites for an idea.

Well, thats just it, Edinburgh's not big at all. It's just small enough to be a city. but compared to everywhere else round this area (Glasgow included), the money you earn doesnt seem proportionate to living costs at all. Alright if you're a student (no council tax etc.) but once you stop becoming a student you'd find out how extortionate it can be.

Well most uni's are in big cities so I was just saying they're gonna be similar. Also it is a capital so you can't expect it to be cheap.

glasgow's bigger than edinburgh in terms of size and population, it has 4 unis in the city centre and it's no where NEAR as expensive as edinburgh. A couple of my mates are at uni in edinburgh and they are struggling to keep their heads above the water even WITH their parents help.

slick, who pays for your accomodation and uni fees?

Agree with Zathras here; Edinburgh is head and shoulders above any of the others in that list.
