    System Password That Works?

A mate of mine just hacked my computer and he wont tell me how he did it (something about changing the registry, whatever that is). According to him, the windows password is really easy to hack. I have an admin password and a regular password so he didn't use safe mode. Is there a utility that offers good protection?
    With love and many thanks,

Dont think so, not as far as I know anyway. If you could boot from an external device, you can hack the Windows logon password. There's half a million tools out there that does that. So one way would be to password protect the BIOS screen

Press F8 at startup, enter safe mode. At the login screen use the administrator account, by default it has no password.

Old one, but it works on most PC's.

yeh thats what i do when a customer forgets to tell me thier password, or if i really wanted the info i would just use the hard drive and put it as a slave to my hdd

windows password security is abysmal, if i have physical access to the pc and the ability to boot to another os (live cd) i can usually (and i emphasis usually - not always) get your password within the hour.

It is even more trivial to change it to something else.

What i suggest and as Hans Voralberg suggested is you password bios and prevent booting from anything other than your main harddrive, although it would still be possible to remove the hdd, and take the info you need using another pc

I just informed him how his mate did it. The obvious solution would be to password protect the administrator account, if that wasn't obvious then I suggest hiring somone to sit and guard your PC.

Our local admin password at my work place is quite secure, its a phrase, a mixture of letters and numbers. Could try that, guess it would be harded to crack than a normal word or two?

Nope, guest mode is off. He didn't just guess it either, I watched him messing around with a load of code before the computer booted. I dont really know why I'm so bothered. It just kinda freaked me out

If you happen to have GRUB, you can stick on a password on there I believe. There again, I'm not sure whether that just stops you making changes, or can actually stop you from booting certain options.
