    Paypal Fraud? Please Advise!

    Guys,

I have 2 laptops for sale on ebay, one is dead and the other needs slight work on its casing but works ok. Some crazy American guy who only has 3 feedback (positive) keeps offering me a deal in private but he is willing to pay way over the odds for the laptop. Im thinking this is a fraudster.

I just wanted to know, if he puts the money into my paypal account, and I send him the money, am I liable to pay the money back to paypal if it was a fraudulant transaction?

I am tho not even considering it, but this has become a debate at the office as to wether I would be held responsible to give the money back.

Just want to know for future reference! Thanks guys!

This sounds like the usual con 'someone owes me money and will pay it all to you for this item, can you send me the balance by cheque?' type thing.

If it is you could be done for helping launder money or just caught out by fraud. Steer well clear.

Drop it faster than the wrong end of a sh*tty stick! You can guarantee it's a scam if they're willing to pay over the odds for something.

he can be paying on a stolen credit card. money goes into your account, then it gets flagged, gets taken back out but you've already sent the laptop. flag him to paypal striaght away to stop him getting someone else

You did the right thing...followed your instincts to start with and reported him afterwards. Well done.

    As for the p-p-p-powerbook.... lol!
