NTL was already well down that road too with an mpeg-4 box prior to the merger instead of the mpeg-2 that the Telewest 1 is - they had selected it back in Oct 2005.

(SA appear to have removed the order announcement from their news pages)

Looks like they may have just gone with the cheaper option

used to work for NTL and from what i'm hearing from old work mates, telewest are making all the decisions and seem to be controlling, or were until virgin came in, NTL bad CS rep obviously put them in a weaker position in the internal running of things.

It depends what side of the business you come from ex-ntl or ex-tw, each side seems to think the other is enforcing control. Not a very happyv time at the mo!

lol, thats like when i was contracting at National Grid after they merged with Transco and changed the name to National Grid Transco, the employees of each side thought that they were the controlling side, Transco should have realised they werent to begin with when the NG staff kept their benefits and pensions because they were better than Transcos, but i think the real kick in Transcos teeth was when the company changed the name back to National Grid, lol

Lol! Been working like this for nearly a year now. Its slowly getting better, but loosing half the Network Ops team (My group) recently really hit us remaining engineers hard. And now I have been moved to a smaller sub "core" team which looks after the backbone which sounds great until you relise that I cover from the East Midlands to the South Coast! 3500 miles in 4 weeks! Nice!

Having said that my new manager is ex NTL and he's a great bloke as are most of the ex NTL guys and gals I have met so far! It just seems that eveeryone thinks the grass is greener on the other side!
