Sky!!!

Sky annoy me to no end. They nick most of the football from terroristial / freeview channels, the cricket as well. Now to add insult to injury they nicked Lost Season 3 off Channel 4! How soon till Formula 1 and Rally for instance end up on a Sky Sport channels? Not happy at all. They just take pretty much all the half decent series being produced and broadcast. I'm sick and tired of the big monolopy they have over TV! How soon will it be before there domination gets so big your pretty much forced to subscribe due to them having all the major broadcasting? Does anyone else share my thoughts on the matter?

sky is what it is, a big company selecting choice entertainment and selling it on at a proffit.

I subscribe and have my gripes, but I pay for the services, so I expect the better quality coverage.

You have a choice - if all the programmes you want to watch are on Sky you can either subscribe and watch them, or not and don't. It's in no way, shape or form a monopoly as there is plenty of competition from Cable, BBC, ITV etc etc - if they didn't get the most popular stuff (along with a LOT of guff!) then nobody would subscribe and they'd go out of business. I believe it's called Capitalism.

what do you expect? you pay £120 per year for the 4 bbc channels, plus radio, plus internet sites etc.. - the rest on terestrial are only supported by adverts.. sky on the other hand get £20-40 per MONTH for your custom - up to £500 per year, and don't need to pay for any radio services.. they also get vast income from advertising. is it surprising they get the better shows?

if the beeb put the licence fee up, you'd winge, so they cant afford the best programming, and you winge. can't have your cake and eat it..

BBC should do away with Licence fee and bring in advertising there us obviously enough to go around.

I reluctantly have Sky. I subscribed mainly for the cricket that was on the terrestial channels for years and moved to Sky. Other than that I don't really watch many of the Sky channels. I do watch a few of the non-Sky channels though.

With the full HD package you're looking at around £600 per year in scubscriptions. Then you have to pay for certain films and sports events on top of that.

So it is expensive and, in my opinion, the adverts are the most annoying feature of Sky. They are carefully synchronised to happen at roughly the same time, they are loud and too frequent.

Unfortunately, Sky have got the consumer over a barrel as there is no other valid competition. So, I'm a subscriber under duress!

I think sky are anti competitive especially highlighted by the ITV malarkey and I agree about the adverts on sky so long and so frequent.

I would say YAY for torrents but I think we are not allowed to talk about that
sort of thing on hexus hahaha.

Sky subscribers (such as myslef) pay a premium in order to have a better choice of programming, they don't nick anything, they just use the extra cash to outbid terrestrial t.v companies for big shows.

Admittedly its not great for everybody but there's no substitute and whats shown on terristrial t.v is utter crap mosta the time imo.

I must say I'm a bit miffed about Sky nicking Lost as I've only just moved into a listed building and whereas I had Sky before, sticking a dish on the new house is a bit of a no-no. I have Channel 4 but I haven't had Sky One since last month and now Lost is on there!

Apart from that though I like Sky, they certainly earn their keep by supplying plenty of channels and new technologies with one of the easiest UI's around. It's what the majority of customers want so they deserve to be doing well for following that.

I certainly have less of a problem giving £21/Month to Sky for a few hundred channels than I do £11/Month to the BBC for just a handful!

I have sky, and I like it :)

It's relativly cheap (unless you do something stupid like subscribe to HD lol), you get a good picture and a huge range of channels. Sky movies gives you loads of excellent movies (with at least one new one a week), and sky one has some great US syndicated shows such as lost and stargate...even better as they are FINALLY catching up to the US.

In fact for the second half of Lost season 3 (remember only they first 6 episodes are shown this year, the rest follow in february) Sky One actually gets it before any US channel (admittedly only by a few hours)..ah the joys of sky :D

Oh and lets not forget the quiz channels..i've paid for my entire years subscription with just 3 wins on those channels from free web entry.

I dont watch TV and i like it.

I've given up watching air TV and I cant be bothered with anything else. I'm happy with making my own movies instead of watching other peoples :D

Hell no! I'd rather pay 120 notes a year for the advertising free channels that the BBC broadcast rather than have loads of **** advertising ridden channels. Sky is especially bad for crap advertising breaks which is REALLY insulting considering you pay a premium for the channels in the first place.

yeah digit your right, would people have bought sky if they hadn't nicked all the sport off terrestrial tv.
As for movies etc ive already seen what i would want to watch before sky shows them, that includes series like lost. Anyway most of what sky shows is dire anyway.
The only useful thing they do at present is free broadband, but i suspect given sky's past record once they get a large base of user's they'll charge you for everything

Hiya, felt I had to comment on this one, I was selling Sky in a shonky telesales pit recently, I felt bad taking the 2hundred odd squids off people for what is essentially a beefed up Sky+ box (which aren't at all reliable anyway!)

I've had my box for about two months now and am yet to have one fault or error with it. What issues do they have?

I just think the price is a bit high off the back of massive HD TV sales throughout the summer (World cup etc ), they have been pushed out on a huge scale and may not be that reliable (a lot have been recalled and a lot of warranties are utilised at the mo! )

I used to have Sky and canned it.

All we have on Sky is the freesat stuff now.

Why'd I bin it?

Cos rather than have just 5 terrestrial channels of pap, or freeviews 60 channels of pap, Sky gave me 600 channels of pap.

It's supremely annoying to sit there and flick through channel after channel and not find anything worth watching... The films on Sky movies don't rotate often enough, Sky Box Office is the same and I care about as much for Sky sports as I do for the French...

Nope, I'm glad I cancelled.

Oh and as for Lost, come on... HOW much longer can they string it out? I mean, it's like the entire series is a few shows worth of ideas strung out for several weeks and dressed up to appear tense.

I'm just waiting for the day they find a mysterious nail sticking from a tree... they can all have a fight over it, someone can accuse someone else of owning a hammer and not telling the group, then perhaps the dog can get a nasty infection that'll be blamed on the nail and the big revel will be the fat bloke hangs his leaves there when he goes for a quick squat around the other side...

How I wish the bear had got them all in season one...

My favourite programme on Sky has to be Most Haunted/Ghost Towns. There's nothing funnier than Derek Acorah getting possessed by spirits ( allegedly ) and Yvette Fielding screeching and shouting expletives at every single noise She hears is hilarious :lol:

3 years with no Sky - am I missing it ?

yvetter heard a voice and bricked it scott said he didnt say anything.

Sam! or Masumai, he was a warrior in life apparently :crazy: I swear to God Derek is going to look purple under those night vision cameras they use one day because of all that fake tan he wears :D

I didn't see that one with Scott Mills, sounds funny though, have to keep an eye out for it! havent been watching it for long really, only started watching it when they were at Edinburgh over Halloween, creepiest one I saw was when they went to the Old Ram Inn, that was freaky, Stuart lost his hair because of that place :O_o1:

Funniest one so far was when they were down an old mine shaft and Yvette called out "Say something if your there, throw something" then all of a sudden you heard great big buuuurrrrrppp and Yvette screamed and ran back down the tunnel :lol:
