Help! Ebay scam alert - what should I do?

Just sold my W850i on eBay, then got this response - what do I do about it? Other than obviously not send my phone to Nigeria...

Avoid like the plague!

Don't ring the number its a 50p a minute jobby.

Report them to eBay and relist or sell it to the 2nd highest bidder.

Yer use second chance to sell to next highest bidder. as the guys said above, just report and and dont call the number.

The same has just happened to me and has already in the past highly annoying but you should forward the matter onto eBay and do not reply in anyway to the email. eBay should then refund any costs and as they have said above relist or use the 2nd chance offer.

I couldnt find out the place to contact eBay other than through the non-paying bidder (which would eventually be true, but I couldnt be arsed to wait) so I looked around and eventually found out how to contact customer service.

Will just relist as it was bought buy it now 1 day into the auction.

LOL, in the space of 5 minutes he is now no longer a registered user.

When putting an item up for sale like this I always use bidder filtering, so they must have positive feedback and have a paypal account.

I had a similar thing not so long ago with (what transpired to be) a hacked user account on eBay...

Not good.

I had all the bidding filtering on and the person who 'won' my item was also a victim of having there account hacked by someone so the bidding filtering fails when that happens. eBay did sort it out and refunded me but only the insert fee so far they didnt refund the final payment fee (which was considerably higher because the idoit scammer bid £707.00 for samsung d600) so i've had to email them again and hope that the refund is there when I get home. Mine was a 5 day listing and i have spent the last 3 days sorting it out so I've wasted 8 days due to some cretin.

Is there any way of setting up the items so it automatically blocks bids from anyone with less than, say, 5 feedback?

I think the only option is for 0 and -1 feedback score. I dont think there is the option to preset the amount of feedback required manually.

Plus with what happened in my situation where a what appears 'legit' account is hacked then the filters dont have an effect.

consider - people who are new to ebay still have to bid on an item.

At some point you had to make that first bid/win - you had 0 or 1 feedback. if you see a 0 or low feedback bidder on your item, contact them you can normally tell if someone is serious / genuine or not.

I only block people with a -1 feedback. I have in the seller's comments where the pay options are available that potential bidders with a feedback score of 0 please contact me before making a bid.

Ditch the buy-it now option.

Make it clear in the item description that you want genuine bidders only and low-feedback bidders should contact you before bidding.

Also state that you will ONLY post to the UK (or wherever you're happy to post to).

Further, state what payments methods you will accept.

Say that anyone who bids MUST conform to your conditions or you'll remove their bid.

That's what I had to end up doing to avoid scammers, stupid bids and pratts who think that I'll post a printer to Sweden for the same price as national Parcel Force rates.

Oh, and only take cheques on the understanding that you will not send the item for 10 days after the cheque has been paid in. (Yes I know cheques don't take that long to clear but it takes that long to catch a fraudulent cheque, which can still be debited from your account).

You need to be clear in those instructions or, as has happened to me, some berk will give you neg feedback, and though it eventually works, getting it removed is a time consuming pain.

^^ what Nick said. The only problem that you cannot fix is that fact that eBay is full of rtards nowadays, and seems to be getting worse.

Just a questions regards the PC you want how come its missing something like &#163;300 of the total price have you done a bit of photoshop manipulation or is it scan didnt add the cards together it only shows a charge for one...

he's not ordering a second card.

That normally happens why you by a bundle/package or a today only item.The first is the physical item the second is the item offer used to put it into the shopping card.

Exactly, I only use ebay very rarely and have maybe 1 feedback, which would make people like me unable to bid. Ikonias idea is better

I relisted it pretty much as it was, with instructions to contact me if 0 feedback, and with specific 'will not post outside of UK' notation, and still within 5 minutes some annoying Nigerian has bought it!

Nightmare! They must have bots running bidding scripts its really ruining eBay big time.

I used to buy and sell phones on eBay but stopped as things just got ridiculous with people not paying, hijacked accounts, please can you post to my nephew in Nigeria, I will pay through the safe and secure method of Moneygram or whatever, and on and on... add that to the number fo fake phone listings (e.g. for 100 units of a phone that hasnt been released for &#163;1000 (&#163;10 a phone?)) - unless eBay really make an effort to sort it out nobody will have anything to do with phones on ebay

Told you, stop listing with a 'buy it now' option... :)
