As part of my luncheon now and then, I used to get a box of red and white seedless grapes from Tesco. They cost about £1.88 for 500g. NOW its £2.99 What gives?!?!

I only checked when I was cutting my spending, checked the till receipt and found they had put them up over a few months.

They have to raise the price due to the amount of grapes eaten between the grape section and checkout. That's 100% true.

If the crops have been bad this year due to adverse weather then this could affect the buying price.

Or alternatively they are going to do one of those adverts with the voice overs ....

These are not just grapes, these are seedless grapes handpicked from the vines by umpaloompa's wearing 24 carat gold gloves and lovely washed in gnats pee.

seasonal variations? the source they get them from at this time of year could be a lot more expensive than in the summer. And of course they are flown into the country creating huge amounts of polution

Talking of Tescos, I had an argument with a shop assistant yesterday who wouldn't let me use the express checkout (where you pay through the machine) because I had 12 items. You are supposed to have 10 items or less, but the shop was dead and noone was even using the damn machines. She made me go to a checkout...grrrr.

Its because they're out of season iirc, which means the one's you're buying now have to be cultivated indoors hence the added cost.
