XD Mem. Card, SD Printer - Ideas?

    Hello all,

I've bought my Grandad a Canon Selphy photo printer for Xmas. It's a quality bit of kit and I'm quite impressed when I tested it out with my SD memory card.

However, my Grandad has a XD memory card in his camera. Now, this photo printer does not accept XD memory cards so I was thinking there must be some sort of adapter or converter that I can get that you smply slot the XD card in to a fitment of some description to make it SD?

Do such things exist? If so, where can I get one from? I'm desperate to get one as he keeps asking if I've managed to get my hands on one for him to practice with.

    Cheers,

If hes got a canon camera or a camera that supports pictbridge he should be able to plug the USB lead straight into the printer, and print directly from the camera to the printer. Its dead easy to do and it allows you to use the camera to select the images to print rather than wasting paper and ink.

Would save messing about with the card formats (I have never seen a xd to SD convertor)

Unfortunately the camera wont work by plugging directly to USB, I've tried that already

    Any other suggestions?

I thought that I found loads of dodgy looking adaptors on ebay back in the summer when I was thinking about risking losing my photos - but they seem to have disappeared.

There's some good quality looking XD to CF, or Smartmedia, adaptors out there - would that work on your printer?

I've stopped taking my XD card out of the camera since I lost a load of photos plugging into a Jessops card reader (and I thought I was really clever actually finding a card reader that did XD in the high street!).
It's USB, camera to PC only for me from now on.

Hmmm, I'll have to check the manual.

[EDIT] - Yeah the manual says this:

Yes, Supported card types: Compact Flash, Microdrive, Smart Media, Multimedia Card, SD Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick DUO*, Memory Stick DUO PRO, xD-Picture Card*, miniSD Card* (*Can be used with the addition of a special adaptor sold separately
Where can I get this adapter??

There are various adaptors available I think- 20s in google got me here:

I'm sure some further searching would find you something cheaper. I guess the Smartmedia Adaptors may well limit you to 128mb XD cards, as that was the limit of the SmartMedia format.

Yeah I found that. A bit pricey though!! The printer only cost £50 itself.

Right, anyone got an xD to CF adapter spare?

I just don't think there's a cheap option for you, sorry. I reckon your best bet is to get a multi-format reader and a largish SD card, and copy his pictures over for him- or teach him how to do it, copy-and-paste ain't too hard. Should run you no more than £15-20.
