This makes great reading, just shows how good technology is becoming.

great read. Very interesting.
I assume from this that if the theif had formatted/rebuilt the mac before connecting it to the net, the undercover software would not be inplace to carry out the reporting.
Still - fantastic idea. Probably the next step in IT security is to have this software burned on to a ROM chip.
It is Inevitable.....
truesay...
If the guy hadnt had the Undercover software, the chance of him getting his macbook back would've been what..? close to none? would be cool if they could implement this in iPods and other stuff, ie when it comes to sync it somehow gets checked on a databasenot so sure how you'd take a photo of the thief tho!
That's a very clever use of the technology available and put to use in a good way too. I hope more internet connectible equipment will have this feature in the future.
Best bit:
Now that the thief has removed most personal files from the Mac, he starts playing games (see below) and watching porn (not shown here).![]()
The thief has a seriously deformed forehead.
great way to catch him though.
i wonder how easy it would be for a well-motivated individual to use this software for there own needs.. if you see what i mean
sounds like a gaping wide backdoor if you ask me

HTC Diamond, Cannon G9. Apple Unibody Macbook Pro 15" 2.4Ghz C2D, 256 9400GT,
I read, where I don't remember, about software like this which wasn't part of
Windows etc and wouldn't be affected by formatting. It wasn't exactly detailed about how it worked but I think it creates its own partition which
is hidden from windows and also cant be deleted when say adding and
removing partitions doing an XP install.
No doubt a program could be made to detect such a partition but I found it
pretty impressive from what i read.
Excellent read and very impressive![]()
you dont see what i mean![]()

very interesting, especially with the screen shots of important stuff and an actual image of the guy himself, I would get that but if anyone tried carrying my PC away without anyone noticing they would have difficulty
