My battle with McAfee

Do you have McAfee Security Center 2007 and MS Outlook2000?

I do and I'm having some problems which McAfee seem incapable of resolving.

Thats strange, my company has 30,000 users in the UK and we use McAfee, there are currently 10 support calls for McAfee, I'd say that was pretty good hit/miss rate. Office on the other hand has 300.

Still I guess maybe its better to jump on the bandwagon with a sweeping generalisation.

NOD32 is good though and AVG is good for free.

How many of the 'Office' support calls are caused by problems with the McAfee code?

Yeah, the AOL got the boot first, and tiscali, and all the other garbage. It is incredible that Dell would put all the stuff on, knowing that it slows their systems right down, I dont get it.

To be fair - how many people actually realise the problem stems from the 'thing they can't see' (viruschecker) to the thing they can (the front end app - e.g. office) which suffers because of it. I write software for a living and just _try_ and explain it's a problem with Windows itself and not your product - end users don't believe it
I willing to be your users and ours are somewhat different - we have design engineers working over a gb lan directly on large CAD models which out virus killer decided one day, to scan for 15 mins each time they opened a project (even tho the exclusion list specified the relevant files) for example. We also have problems with it constantly hitting us with false positives on _our own_ software and happily deleting the .exe's as you compile them

Still as you say - sweeping generalisations are better aren't they?

I'd recommend NOD32 simply because it uses far less resources, is very good at finding the naughties and _personally_ (as a user of it at home comparing it to the product force on me at work) I think it's the better product. Just an opinion chill
