I still think it'd have been more fitting to have thrown him in prison for the rest of his life and then he could have been trialled for other crimes until his death.

it won't be forgotten for a while i think, as i believe there will be many problems in Iraq due to his execution, so it will be remembered for that, but after a while, yes, it will be forgotten. also my cousin is going out to the middle east in 2 weeks for his first army assignment thing...so thats going to be more worrying if theres riots going on due to saddam being executed!

No, the backlash will be born by 1000's ordinary iraqi civilians who continue to be the worst hit by the civil war/power vacuum. Far better to have kept him in prison forever, capital punishment is incompatible with a civilised regime.
no doubt we'll have an al jazeera public screening before that though. that tv station seems to have all the videos.
Hardly gives the impression of a new, improved Iraq does it? Executing their former leader just days after his trial, in a dingy jail with men in balaclavas and leather jackets as the hangmen.
