I just found out my little brother is severely allergic to an antibotic that he was prescribed for a severe throat infection.
How do I know this? Well he was rushed to hospital this morning at 3 am as his throat was swelling and he couldn't breathe correctly and it looks like he's going to be in hospital for a few days.
I dunno the youth of today, they'll do anything to get out of a hard days work
What's scary though is years ago you never heard of 1/2 of these allergies but today you have people who swell up like balloons at the sight of a peanut, yet when I was a small kiddy many moons ago nobody had heard of nut allergies.
What's going on? Why are all these suddenly appearing?

its like that book or film or whatever.. were all going to live in little bubbles of perfect cleanness and then somethig will go wrong and we'll all die from being in contact with air thats not 100% pure oxygen... or something

I think the general consensus is that since we're cleaning everything more and more, we're having huge reactions to things where they would naturally be minor if at all. Compared to other "threats" a peanut stands out a lot more in a pristine environment to dirty old caves and mud-huts.![]()
1.21 GIGAWATTS!!!!!
I agree with that, people take cleanliness too far. Not to say that I think living in filth is the way forward but we are too clean for our own good. It could also be that we now live in a far more informative world where these types of things are more heavily publicised.
Lee, sorry to hear about your brother. Hope he gets better soon.
My best wishes also...
Allergic reactions are a pig, but fortunately I only suffer from a mild form of rhinitis caused by wheat, barley, rye, milk, cheese and eggs. It makes my sinus overproduce, and it runs down the back of my throat, thus causing me to "clear my throat" every minute or so. VERY bleddy annoying for anyone in the same room.
If you google "stone age diet" (S.A.D.) you will probably find a whole load of theories about man not having evolved as fast as the food we eat - ie - we eat too much processed food but our body cannot deal with it properly.
I went on this S.A.D. in 1992 and discovered all of my allergies, and can now eat some of them with only minor effects. It is possible to work an allergy out of your system.
If we all ate fresh fruit, veg, meat and fish and drank only bottled spring water, we'd all be a lot healthier !!

Thanks all he's okay now - back to his normal "Kevin-like" self now.
I do agree with all the comments about we are too clean and stuff like that but with the way things are progressing I cannot imagine what it's going to be like in an additional 20-30 years time with allergies probably putting a lot more strain on the NHS.
Cos we are all a bunch of sissies these days. The past hundred years has had drastic changes with regard to diet and cleansiness compared to the last 1000 years, Our primitive human bodies cant keep up.
Now what we need is an allergy to smoking.
Doesn't matter, they smell anyway![]()
I am allergic to some ingredient which was in an anaesthetic cream used for inserting an IV when I was six - I was in hospital to check if my baby egg allergy had passed or not, and the IV was in case I still was. However by the end of the day I had a nice rash where the cream had gone![]()
