    CompTIA A+. Usefull?

I was thinking of taking this course and I was wondering if anyone here has taken it? Apparently its helpful if you want to work in computer maintenance like me (don't laugh, I'm not THAT bad at it).

    Thanks.

Not particularly. I did it a few years ago (check my registration date, I joined this forum whilst on the course) and everything was a couple of years out of date.

    :S thats never good.

Are you sure you really do need it?

you don't have your DOB on ur profile, but i'm gessing your < 27. Belive me, when i have to do "sh*t sifting" where i'm reminded of my place on the team by having to go through all the crap that have applied and weed out just the ones worth my boss's time, you don't look at certifications. The logic goes:

"oh, wow you bought a nnnn, well done you.".
    or
"wow, you got 97%, i should hope so too, its an utter waste of time".

What i'm saying is enless the person reading ur CV did the certification odds are they will not be impressed, or have the highest opion of it.

If you've been told that its a requirement to have x certification, then its a different matter, but if its a firm who have people they know have the skills they need, then odds are they will know what questions to ask at interview to test knowledge, rather than use certifications.

I was just looking around and popped into a few computer repair shops to see if they had anything going. They basically said that they couldn't trust a 17 year old with a computer unless I had some sort of computing qualification. I see your point though.

    In that case get it
I have one but consider it to have been a complete waste of my time and money. Did each 90 minute exam in 5 minutes or less and passed. Some of the answers they were after were actually wrong.
e.g. can 2 devices share the same IRQ. The true answer is yes, provided they will not generate interrupts at the same time. The answer they want is no of course.
