    Me need some help!

Right, i'm over at the neighbours borrowing their internet connection - mine has been down since Saturday (a story I shall not go into justnow, i'm tight for time).

Anyways, BTs "technical helpline" is nothing short of criminally incompetent and isn't helping much at all - does anyone know of any BT contact numbers that are answered by someone in this country, and who can actually help me - the folks you get with the usual number on the site (0845 600 7030), are Indian I think (nothing against them, but tbh they're not much use for the job they're doing, given its probably a foreign language to them etc), and are reading the same script to me over and over again!

    Any other contact numbers appreciated

    David

P.S. I'm migrating to Zen once I get my connection back

You can get to BT support by calling the standard 0800 800 150, pain in the backside going through the menus but you should get through to someone! I was given the same number as you to phone over my problems but they cut me dead.

Had a load of hassle with BT over the last few weeks, and was on the phone to them for 2 days solid i'm not going to go into details about it it's too long winded but i'm contacting Otelo over it.

Also, ask to speak to an engineer and, being VERY polite, explain that you've been through the standard tech support and you really need an expert engineer on the line.

I used to be with BT, (moved cos they're too pricey) and the tech support was superb... I even had a tech guy call me at 2am on a Monday morning when I was having trouble!

But yeah, go through the 150 number and select BT Broadband support... or get the operator to give you the number.

Cheers folks, I tried the 0800 800 150 and the broadband section tells me to call the number in my first post..boo!

Anyways, i've made no progress with BT, they never seem to have a record of my previous 4/5 calls, so I have to repeat everything again (although, I did have a rather good lady in the Line Faults dept tonight who acknowledged that I had tried all the basic tests and said "I wont waste your time with those" which was nice of her ).

Anyways, just as a by the by, i've got the Voyager 205 and the phone plugged into a Microfilter into the test socket behind my master socket.

Given than a) I can make phonecalls and b) I can't connect to the internet (when I telnet into the router, it doesn't come up with any messages - "PPP Interface up" etc, so it doesnt look like its even making an effort to connect - the Belkin Router I tried with has a DSL light and what looks like a phone light (I guess it turns on when it detects a phone line?) - which doesnt even come on when I try it on my socket when i've set it up right) - and i'm in the test socket - can any Communications Professionals who know a lot more than me offer any advice?

Cheers, and hopefully that made some sense!

    David

this is the sad truth with BT,

Listen to their IVR for how much of a waste their INITIAL support is

"if you are having phone troubles press 1 - if you are having connection problems visit our website at www.bt.com/broadband"

how do you do that with connection problems ???

You have to log a call - get a call reference then keep chasing it. the odds are one time you'll get through to the 10 UK staff rather than the overflow - this is just random though, however if you do get through you must have a call reference or they will put you through to the call loggers in india again.

Once you speak to the people in the UK they are pretty great to be honest, I've had stunning service out of them, its just that initial connection.

One tip - if you are getting fed up - go through to billing as there is always UK staff there (they don't want any indian drons messing up the payments !!) and just moan at them, they can sometimes get you put direct through to high level complaints which is UK only, they then get uk staff to call you back.
    It is Inevitable.....

Billing, I shall try that later - i'm gonna try 0800 800 150 again, to see if there is any Line Fault options there and see where they are based!

    Wish me (mucho) luck!
