    Happy Birthday...

    Anyway 25 ain't old so keep acting young. I do and I'm nearer to 30 than you and I still give all these young students in Manchester a run for their money whenever I'm out chasing lasers

    Anyway... not 1 card for me this year as yet *sniff*, no chocolates or anything.

    I got my wife a card and a 4 pack of John Smith's Extra Smooth for Valentine's day

    She was on an early start so she left before I woke up, but i got a text off her today:

    Happy societally enforced day of romance love you

    So I replied:

    Happy obligatory shallow show of affection day today! Now I've said that, do I get some?*

    We're both very cynical people, as I'm sure you've probably worked out

    * No reply on that as yet...

    I'm quite broke this year but my g/f understands. I have got her a card and a nice big teddy bear (she is 24 but loves them for some reason).

    My present to her isnt as good as what she got me which is to stay and a fancy hotel in belfast next thursday after the razorlight concert. But she understands and its the thought that counts i hope!

    Its just another time of the year for a stupid gimmik to make loads of money!

    I didnt say that though....................

    <cue misery>

    Its all about the card companies making money - not to mention the flower growers, days like this REALLY get my goat - why do it for one day, what the heck is wrong with the other 364.

    </end misery>

    Im on my own tonight, working. Not my change there really

    Poo to all those people who disagree with Valentines Day on the basis that you shouldn't need a day to show your other half you care, or because it's just commercially manufactured to get people to buy stuff....

    ...like people make that special effort to let the other person know they love them every other day of the year. For some people that day of romance is the only one they get. So yeah, it's shallow, but so are people. Same applies to mother's day, father's day, grandparents day and whatever other fabricated excuse for getting people to buy crap...PEOPLE ARE STUPID, SELFISH, HORRIBLE, AND SELF OBSESSED. You think people are capable of being nice human beings? You're wrong!!! They need this prompting, or for most people they wouldn't have a clue!

    And yes, I'm sure the people in here are the exception, but then again you're generally a well informed, educated bunch....as for the rest of the country/continent/world they need a kick up the arse, like they do for everything else...

    valentines day = money spinner.

    so we went for an indian last night instead. no, not single but why should just one day be special? as noted - what's wrong with the other days of the year to make you think less of a person?

    LOL! You two win. I've been carefully training my wife in the art of cynicism for the 3 1/2 years we've been married- but she was still a bit put out to not get anything from me at all, even though I've spent the last 7 days at work. What am I supposed to do, plan more than 7 days ahead? I never heard anything more ridiculous.

    lol So true Rave

    I got my missus a pressie in the end as I haven't gotten her my usual random present for a while now (where I see something she likes and buy it even though it's not a special day at all)...so a necklace, bear thing and flowers it was (cheap but nice one). Cooked her a nice meal too - random making up of food ftw

    Had a nice night in and didn't even go on my PC once! which she was impressed with

    On the downside I did get forced to watch Pretty Woman
