thinking of getting a new card

ok, i have a 6600GT from BFG, and my brother needs a new card so I'll give him that and get a new one. Do you think buying a ATI Radeon X800 XT 256MB 256BIT AGP 8X new is a good choice? On toms hardware charts it beats almost all the cheap cards under £90, and it even beats the 7600GT in framerates in some games.
Just wanna know if its a crappy choice or if its good. I'm a gamer but not a hardcore one and I think my system would go longer with that card. Also how many amps on the 12V rail would this card need, if anyone has one it would be helpful if they know how many amps they have on theirs.

card is £80, plus I think i'd need a psu upgrade because my 6600gt didn't run on any of the other psu's :(

If I\'m honest, that would have been my first upgrade. I don\'t really trust generic PSUs.

Do you really need any more performance? or was it a case of I could, so I may aswell? If the latter, I\'d go for improving the stability of your rig with a better PSU than attempting a performance upgrade.

It seems my psu and this other 400w psu that came with another case can run my 6600 fine, I havent got much to spend though. I was thinking of saving for a c2d setup in the summer for about £800 but if I get this x800xt pe card it should last me longer. It\'s miles better than the 6600gt and a 7600 which shocked me. I really dont trust generic psu\'s either but im stuck with them for now. as these parts i have arent tip top i dont mind using them.

I think the x800 sounds like a good idea for the price. A mate has one and apparently u can flash the bios and make it an X850 or something like that anyway. U probs got the right idea there if ur not looking to upgrade for a while but wanna a bit more juice outa ur system in the meantime

i don't mind. as long as the card give me good framerates i'll be happy for another year. then maybe ill do a full upgrade. i ordered a psu tester too incase the one i get is faulty. :) can't wait now.
