See if any of the stores in your area stock this (or similar size, but same make/model), £1200+ is a lot to spend without seeing it first, you don't have to buy from them, just look at it. Also, if they are running it with HD content, ask to see it with ordinary tv, sometimes the HD looks fantastic, but standard tv rubbish (this is really for lcd screens, but suppose it may count for others).
Having said that, 55", wow. 1080p HD great, 2x hdmi all sounds good.
Nice that it's a 1080i. My 50" 720p was £1600 just over a year ago.
Bear in minds that Virgin Media HD only has BBC HD at present, and its re-encoded from the native 1080i h264 format to 1080i mpeg2.
From my experience Sony generally make great TV's
I assume you have a Ballroom or something you want to put this in?
Putting it 6feet away from you will look pretty rubbish imo, especially for SDTV
hot damn! thats sweet!
It's only 2" wider than my current 42" Relisys with it's side speakers. Although it is almost a foot higher
here is the Sony spec page:

very very very very tempting... even thought it would be completely stupid to buy one
Well atm we have one of those SD huge rear projection tv's from sony (45inch)you know the sony wega (think that is what it is called) and if you don't sit far away, it looks horrible.
I've seen the previous gen 50" sony DLP (rear projection LCD) TV and absolutely loved it - this will probably be much better again.. Sorely tempted myself - really like the reproduction of rear projection compared to panels.

Go there - you can have it with a FREE 5 YEAR WARRANTY too for £1,299.99 but delivery is 80quid (ouch). "BUY NOW, PAY FEBRUARY 2008" as well apparently.
Christ.. i'm getting close to pulling out me card
BTW the KD55A20S11XTNS is the same telly but with a stand.
If your not too fussy about PQ, then its probably a great deal.
If you are a bit fussy, I would go and take a look at one, preferably taking a look at both its SD and HD capabilities.
Some people find they don't like the look of certain styles of display.

That's good advice - I bought a telly without seeing it once and hated it (still got it) IRL. Have to say tho that SXRD is amazing (for me anyway) I think the colours/blacks are much nicer than panels (IMHO). I'd probably go for the five year warranty as that'd probably see you onto a second lamp (they don't last forever). Great price for such a big set..
well if you do buy it, tell us how good it is
Heres some owners reviews
