New card, need advice please

Just doing the spec for new box, but graphics cards are a dark art to me.

Not interested in games (sorry); might play a video; bit of 3-D.

Must be passive cooling; run no bigger than a 24" monitor.

Need DirectX 9c and OpenGL 2, just to be standard.

So far have been interested in (from Scan):

128/512MB Palit 7100GS (Palit? - who?)

oops - can't post url 'til I get me long trousers!

Is this any good (FSV of any good) and if not what could be, please?
There is a limit on price, pref. below £30.

if your just watching videos etc it will probs be fine.

The better brads out there are BFG, XFX, Asus and leadtech mainly but i dont think you will notice much difference to be honest.

If your computer is PCI-E then a 7300LE is a good bet :

The 7100 series is actually a modified 6200TC whereas a 7300LE is a true 7 series card.It will be probably better at video playback too(HDTV stuff) as it is faster.I think it is worth the extra 4-5 quid IMHO espcially if you are running higher resolution monitors!!

Thanks, this is helpful. I wasn't sure about Palit; Asus I've found to be OK (MoBo, DVD RW etc.); XFX seems to have a lot of cards but I hadn't heard of it.

Thanks for the links - I'd looked a some of these but didn't know if they were any good. At least I was in the right sort of area.
I'd read that an 'LE' card was sort of cut down and that 'GS' would be better, so went for the 7100GS. Hadn't realised about the versions.

Feeding components into an online PSU calculator, the nVidia cards seem lower than the ATI ones, so less cooling.

It'll be PCI-E.
