    Very weird 8800GTX problem

    hi

story starts a couple of days ago when my x1900xt died. I sent off for an 8800gtx and it arrived next day. All was good and uninstalled previous drivers and ran drivercleaner pro in safe mode before putting on new drivers.

Everything was fine for about an hour and played cod2, lost coast and then started to play coh. Twenty minutes in the screen textures start flashing and finally in crashes to black screen. Rebooted and noticed yellow patches everywhere and was made worse if a window was moved about. Games were unplayable etc. I then uninstalled drivers and installed the ones that came with card and effect was worse.

Rang retailer and organised an RMA for card. I then thought that I should maybe do a format and new install of xp ready for arrival of new card. Bios splash screen still had mistakes and lines down it and during the install of xp the yellow marks were still visable.

Then noticed after continuing with install and sp2 etc that yellow suddenly disappeared. Not sure why or how or even if its sorted for good but have cancelled RMA and said will use for bit longer and see if problem returns.

Am wondering if anyone has ever had a similar problem and can tell me what it is.

    Many thanks.

What PSU are you running? Make amps etc

Asking the obvious so dont be offended, you did plug in both PCI-e power connectors?

I would think then the card is fubard. If it was Scan that you bought it from they will sort it pretty quickly.

Actually has the problem occured since SP2 is on and have you updated DX9?

If you have and the problem still occurs send it back.
I had a similar issue with a 6800GT thought it was the card but checked the PSU by swapping out and it was the PSU.

In this instance with a new Silverstone I'd think it was the card.
Good luck on sorting it out.

Everything has been fine since (touch wood).

Did switch on yesterday and nothing appeared on screen although seemed like pc was still booting; open case and checked everything visibly ok and started up again and everything was fine. no problems since.
