    Which card should I buy?

Today the fan on my Leadtek 6800GT started making nasty noises, coming from the middle bit. I'm thinking it's on it's way out, and the performance of the card isn't what it was so I think I'll get a new card instead of changing the fan.

But ah so many cards too choose from. I was thinking of maybe a 1950pro as I can get one for around £115, but then perhaps I should spend £200 and get one of them 8800GTS 320mb cards, although i guess i will be limited by the cpu with it.

I play games at 1280 x 1024 and with the 6800gt that is at medium quaility with no or 2xAA, so it would be nice to be able to play at high with some AA and the other one.

Anyway what do you think I should get?

Personally I'd get one of these:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=369640

    or these:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=168309

to tide me over until the nVidia 8600 series comes out. It'll likely perform on a par with a 7950 but with DX10 support.

Anything better than this is likely to be extreme overkill if you max out at 1280x1024.

Depends how cpu and ram limitted you are going to be.

I think scrandman's suggestion of a new, far cheaper cooler is the best idea, and worth doing even if you go for the card anyway so you can sell the 6800

    Hi

I would split the money between getting a dual core processor upgrade and a DX10 card.

You can get an X2 3800 for aroun 90 quid:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=256882

I would then a get a 8600 series card like the previous poster said or a cheap 8800 series card in the next few months.

The VF900 is a good replacement fan and you should be able to use it on the next graphics card you get(hopefulyy!).I have one and it is an excellent, albeit slightly heavy, graphics cooling solution!!

To be honest I think my experience with my 6800GT has put me off Leadtek cards for life. I had had to send it back 2 times since I had it coz it was faulty. It cost my £15 in postage coz it had to go back to the netherlands each time.

And now the fan is going it must be a really cheap fan to only last 18 months.

Yeah I guess I could change the fan instead, it would be alot cheaper at least. Is it easy to fit ? I tend to be a bit cack handed with stuff like that.

Well I think I fried the 6800GT today. I was playing DDO when the screen froze and then went to a blue screen of death and a really loud noise from the pc speaker. I pulled the power cord out, took the card out and put in an old geforce 5900. It kind of works but everything is kind of in pink now lol

Check out a screenshot of my desktop
