    Budget card battle - 7100 vs 6200

    Hey guys

I am looking for a buget card for the system I am building. It will probably be upgraded to an 8800 eventually but I just need somthing so I can run my montior and my TV through it at the same time so either a vga and a dvi card or a duel dvi card.

The 7100 and the 6200 cards are both around £20-£30. Which is better or is there not enough difference to care about?

    Any other card suggestions?

    Thanks

    Brent

At that end of the market, I doubt the difference will be that much to worry about.

What motherboard/processor combination you going for?

Yep it wont make much difference.. 7300 (£35ish) may improve games a little but probably not.

I think the 'probably not' part of this sentence is the most accurate.

nforce 680i board and e6600 core 2. I can afford the 8800 atm so was just going to wait a month or 2 for me to have more money and for the cards price to drop.

get the 8800 i got from from www.lowestontheweb.com then.

£225 for the leadtek 640mb..it'll wont get cheaper than that for a long time.

Or wait for the 8600 and do SLi?

end of the day £20 or £30 is just a waste..so lets say you can get a gts for £160 but then its cost you £30 anyway and you've had to wait 2 months for the card lol

so have you actually got the motherboard because if u really do wanna wait u could get a diff one with onboard gfx. Otherwise dont bother with crappy graphics cards if u can afford an 8800

No don't have it, but am going to buy it either april or may (depending on what my bank says)

I was going to get the 8800 about 2 months after I get the rest of my system so I can save more money hence buying a cheap card to start with. I dont see the point in getting somthing inbetween which I am only going to use for about 2 or 3 months tops you know? In that time the 8800 price will undoutably drop as well soo...?

look at the 7800gtx ...still sells for £250 and over

You may as well see whats avaliable in a month or so. The 8300, and 8600's are on the way afaik and the 8600 "gts/ultra" has a good spec.. especially if you are planning SLi.

It is true, no onboard on 680i. £20 is not bad for a one off though, dont think it is worth getting a dif mobo for it?

Try and get a PCI-E X800 second hand. Shouldn't cost more then £40 and hold there value well.

It will also lay the proverbial smack-down on a 6200.

I looked on ebay and saw some for around about that price mark, what a great idea!!

I was actually thinking to myself is it worth me getting the nforce 680i board that I am getting? Its about £150, and I could get a 650i for about £75.

    What you think?

TBH i cant help you with that but i dont see the point in SLI boards, i bought into it early with my asus a8n 32 sli deluxe and its worthless. looking back i wish i had saved my cash and spent it on something more worthwhile.
If i where you i would just get a decent 965 or 975 chipset and get a better graphics card
